My response to the GOP's defunding public broadcasting.
A part of the spending cuts passed was the elimination of funds for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. This has been a long-term project for the Republican Party, or at least elements of it, as Rachel Maddow's video below explains.

In any event, I can't be the only one who remembers the tussles of yesteryear, including Newt Gingrich's sneering claims that public broadcasting is "elitist" and that "Rush Limbaugh is public broadcasting." Note to Newt: Look up the word public.

This time, though, the GOP had the numbers and the vehicle, namely the spending cuts in the current budget. They face a Senate controlled by the Democrats, and I have no idea how this is going to play out. CPB funding only amounts to a few dollars (if that) per U.S. resident per year, and moreover it only makes up a relatively small percentage of NPR and PBS funding.

But since I'm a member of my local public broadcasting radio/TV stations, I thought I might make a symbolic donation to a PBS station in Boehner's area. So I hunted around and found a few stations, notably ThinkTV in Dayton, Ohio. If I donate, it'll be with the message that I'm showing solidarity with the PBS supporters and opposition to Boehner.

I invite other PBS and NPR supporters to do the same, either with their own districts or another.
