Scott Brown says he was sexually abused as a child
By Globe Staff

Republican US Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts says he was sexually abused as a child by a camp counselor.

In an interview slated to air Sunday on the CBS-TV show "60 Minutes," Brown said he was abused several times by the counselor.

Brown also said he suffered physical abuse at the hands of his stepfathers, according to a news release issued by the show.

4. Shows how victims become perps.
This is a prime example of what is going on.

Unless you are alleging he has molested his daughters
I would rethink that.

15. One was a sex crime
The other was a joke. Maybe a borderline inappropriate joke, but a joke.

21. I did not vote for Brown. But I took his comment on his daughters availability
as a joke at a giddy moment for him. I read nothing into his comment that it was a joke, I still feel that way.

in the Massachusetts house to allow hospitals to deny care to rape victims who ask for the morning after pill, and it is against the policy of the hospital to allow contraceptives. The victims would have to go elsewhere. Wasn't on the victims side there, was he? And in no way am I trying to diminish what he had to go through and live as a victim. But didn't he learn something? http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/01/14/824971/-Scott-Brown-and-Choice:-Whats-the-Real-Story

If he'd resisted the urge to become an abuser himself, I'd feel a lot more sorry for him. Abusing victims at second hand, from an elected position, is still abuse.

edit to remove n/t tag

9. Do you really equate his political position
as ill thought out as it is, with child abuse?

Are they really morally equivalent? If so, should every conservative who adopts his positions be placed in jail for their beliefs?

Cause if those beliefs are tantamount to child abuse, they should be jailed.

17. I kind of view it like closeted gays who take anti-gay positions
you are right that one is a crime but honestly, turning away a rape victim from treatment morally repugnant to me.

18. I am equating his political position with enabling rapists
because that's exactly what it is- assisting in the abuse of a rape victim by denying her necessary medical care after the assault. If he were to support laws denying casts to abused children with broken limbs, I'd be calling it equivalent to child abuse, and likely so would you. Same principal applies.

8. people aren't always consistent
and maybe, you know, he's been in a bit of denial. Maybe denying other people that kind of outlet helps keep the memories down.

dunno. humans are highly problematic creatures.

14. there is no way he would make this up if he just wanted sympathy
you know how tough it is for people to talk about this, especially men. and for Scott Brown this happened years ago when it would have been even tougher so i'm not surprised he didn't tell anyone. in fact a lot of older guys who have been abused are talking about it more now than before.

16. When it comes to childhood sexual abuse, I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt
If it turns out he is lying, then fucking shame...but I believe he's telling the truth.
