Obama is going to eat ReTHUGS during the
budget process. He isn't cutting Social Security or Medicare. What's more Dems will never pass most of his cuts leaving RETHUGS selling out the American people.

This is raw politics and those dumb ReTHUGS are going to left naked and exposed as haters of workers.

4. I think that was his way of calling them out...
It's not in his proposed budget... and the RThugs would have to show their true, poor people hating colors in order to argue in favor of such a thing.

5. I personally don't think so. He went out of his way saying they would be able to deal on SS, Then
followed up that Medicare would be much more difficult

Not once in his conference did he mention any cuts to the military, though he mentioned the Pell Grants and other issues

We will see in the course of time

12. The SS cuts weren't in the budget he presented...
He's waiting for THEM to submit their plan. They never have one... I think they don't want to be nailed down with their own ridiculous proposals.

Haven't seen you in months.

Here's an idea. Maybe it is what it looks like. Maybe when Obama says he's willing to "work with Republicans on entitlement reform", he means he's willing to work with Republicans on entitlement reform.

Given the context, I'd say Obama is basically telling the GOP that the political class needs to be willing to spread the blame around evenly if they ever hope to cut such popular and successful programs.

3. Everything is on the table now...
And the RThugs are going to have no choice but to show their true colors. This will further divide them... those 'Baggers are going to be pissed when they hear the truth.

6. I agree.
I sure hope people pay attention.
The cuts the republicans/tea-partyers are chattering about are absurd.

9. Maybe,
That would be nice. However, I need to see that the White House is willing to shut down the government over its principles. So far the administration has always seemed to give whatever policy ground it has to in order to get something--anything-- passed quickly, whether in health care, taxes, etc. It's like the goal is to have as many bill signings as possible, not to pass good policy.

Also, dang, that's a lot of hearts.

15. Sorry--did you see the look on his face??
At the news conference he started babbling about SS and Medicare and addressing them and compromise, etc. in response to a question; and then the blood drained out of his face!!! He caught himself and it was OBVIOUS. He then super quickly went on to some other part of the question the reporter asked. In other words, everyone is going to put on a "play" for the people to lick their base's butts; but they are going to get out the knives behind the scene and then jump in the boat (the boat of "hard choices") together. He will then waive around the Cat Food Commission report..........I'll put money on it........

21. C'mon-- he's used this same play repeatedly now. He starts out
by laying out a "compromise" position... one that would be considered a modest win by the Democratic Party's traditional adversaries. He negotiates and compromises from there, until he's formed the thing into a massive win for Corporate America.

Given the budget he put forward and his statements since, I'd be surprised if Obama hasn't made a commitment to some kind of cuts to Social Security before this is all over. He may even open the door for Medicare and Medicaid cuts later on.

23. as far as I can tell the Republican plan is to not pass a budget
basically drag the process out sooooooooo long. That most of the fiscal year is over. Then pass a token budget that really won't cut anything, because the fiscal year would basically be over.
