...treasonous Iran-Contra affair. Had Weinberger been prosecuted, it may have brought GHW Bush's role to light.

I don't think Obama should be rewarding people who use the pardon power to obstruct justice and to hide the truth.

9. Meh
GHWBush seemed a lot more sensible and reasonable than his son was (he knew it would be an awful idea to try to overthrow Hussein after GW1 and he kept his word to our allies). I'm not going to argue that he was a great guy and/or that his hands are clean or anything but, as Republicans go, I would've rather had him for POTUS than his son. I'll save my outrage (and vomit) for when President Obama gives GWBush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and/or Condi Rice a "Presidential Medal of Freedom."

out trophies to the biggest war criminals on the planet or corporate criminal ponzi artist or foreign megaconglomerate of the month. Might have stood for something at one time, now it is just another feather in the cap of the wealthy.

24. Along with Jasper Johns, Maya Angelou, John Sweeney, Bill Russell
I could care less about George H.W. Bush.

We saw a Mexican-American civil rights activist, a gay painter, a Chinese-American musician, an African-American literary figure, an Irish-American labor leader, a Jewish-American holocaust survivor, and many more, including ... Stan the Man Musial ... have their incredible contributions honored today.

Why focus on the negative. I love the Medal of Freedom Honors day: it reminds me of the positive, and of the remarkable contributions that citizens from all walks of life make to this country. Enjoy it, and stop focusing on your hatreds. It impedes our ability to do good.

I was very moved by these awards. Even that of the man I voted against vehemently: GHW Bush. That's what makes us a great country.

Edited on Tue Feb-15-11 03:09 PM by Javaman
is so completely removed from 1) reality 2) the average American and plays by the tune of the beltway, then everything becomes clear.

It's all part of the fraternal order of back slapping and glad handing.

Their various minions tell them what they want to hear and screen out the objections.

They, at best, get a view of things through a milky opaque window, while we, daily, see filthy reality.

So am I angry that Obama is giving moron* this tin plated title? Nope. I actually expect it.

Sorry I've made up my mind it's *not* because he's a stealth Republican or because he just needs everyone to love him. To me it looks like he's in both personal and national security survival mode. Same as the Dem leadership has been in for years.
