9. There's this disturbing notion that victimization by other inmates is part of the punishment.

It became especially disturbing to me after I'd seen the original Scared Straight documentary, wherein you see inmates given complete sanction and immunity by the state to fulfill any desires they have to threaten to rape and assault minors right in front of law enforcement officers. This is what the state wants the inmates to do, in order to intimidate juveniles, and they openly present it as part of the system of punishment. It's sick and unjust as fuck.

especially since he knows he's going to be an old man nobody remembers much about when he's released. While I hope some of the ego is being knocked out of him, I deplore violence and would sincerely hope the skinheads get segregation until they rethink the whole idea.

this story conveniently comes out right after OJ was denied a retrial by the Nevada SC. OJ tried to claim he deserved a retrial because his conviction was due in part to a racist jury.

Of course violence in prison happens and it's terribly wrong, but I don't think it happened to OJ.
