Obama Walks in the Wrong Direction -- Hightower
http://www.truth-out.org/jim-hightower-obama-walks-wrong-direction67594

As part of his odd and demeaning determination to hug up America's avaricious corporate powers, President Obama walked across Lafayette Square on Feb. 7 to enter the imperial gates of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and show deference to the business establishment.

Apparently, his ongoing obsequiousness is an effort to woo corporate donors and show conservative voters how moderate he can be. But does he really think that that either of those groups is going to give any love back?

After all, if you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.

More than an adage, that's a crucial operating principle of presidential leadership.

1. Not to pile on or anything....

...but Hightower is, as usual, right on.

Especially this:

" ....the organizational truth of whom the chamber represents -- for the outfit's policies are set by a handful of oil conglomerates, Wall Street banks and other huge, self-serving corporations."

.

2. It wasn't fun to see the prez give an interview to the thugs at Fox, and go...
...begging to the chamber - even apologizing to those fuckers.

imo he disrespects himself and the American people with moves like that.

Much better to stand up to them and welcome their hatred, as FDR did.

3. Hightower is the one author I'll rec
even before I read the piece. Just the general principal of posting Hightower should be encouraged on this board.

4. Thanks for posting, I have not heard from Jim Hightower in quite some time
Hopefully we will be hearing more from him, even since Molly Ivin's death he seems to have kind of just disappeared. I always enjoyed his writings, he is both very smart and very funny.
