Former wingnut John Cole turns full metal dirtyfuckinghippie, awesome rant..
John Cole was a wingnut up until Terry Schiavo, he has been moving leftward in fits and starts since then.

Just like no one can diss a church like a former member, no one can rip wingnuts like one of them whose seen the light.

<snip>

One thing that even the dim bulbs in the media should understand by now is that there is in fact a class war going on, and it is the rich and powerful who are waging it. Anyone who does anything that empowers the little people or that threatens the wealth and power of the plutocracy must be destroyed. There is a reason for these clowns going after Think Progress and unions, just like there is a reason they are targeting wikileaks and Glenn Greenwald, Planned Parenthood, and Acorn. To a lesser extent the fail parade that was the Daily Caller expose on Journolist was more of the same.

You have to understand the mindset- they are playing for keeps. The vast majority of the wealth isn’t enough. They want it all. Anything that gets in their way must be destroyed. They don’t care if they poison every stream or crack the foundation to your house or if your daughter dies getting a back alley abortion or if every one in your mining town has an inoperable tumor. They just don’t give a shit.

And they are well financed, have a strong infrastructure, a sympathetic media, and entire organizations dedicated to running cover for them. They’ve even created their own mythical ideology in which they are superhero Galtian overlords, and this lets a few rubes who babble ignorantly about the free market get to feel like they are playing along, when they are really just being played. It’s these guys versus all of us, yet half the people being rogered (Republicans and glibertarians and hell, half the Democrats) have been convinced the other side is a bigger threat to their well being than the people with all the power, money, and resources. Hell, even in this post I can guarantee that at least five shitheads will come in and tell me they don’t like Glenn Greenwald because he uses too many words or that Jane Hamsher is shrill or because neither of them fellate Obama to satisfaction. Talk about not fucking getting it.

I don’t even know why we bother to hold elections any more, to be honest, the game is so rigged. We’re a banana republic, and it is just a matter of time before we descend into necklacing and other tribal bullshit.

8. The ones that are left are like wingnut neutronium.
The densest heads that are able to exist in our universe, anything stupider invokes the wingularity and their heads implode from the sheer concentrated cretinosity.

9. People change. That's why I keep my anti-Right passion on a leash.
I'm particularly good at "outreach", persuading conservatives to re-evaluate their positions.

One friend of mine from high school became a local real estate baron and a Born-Again Christian conservative Republican, etc., with all the trimmings. He still hasn't changed his voting registration, but he has become uncomfortably aware of the war his class is making against mine. However, part of it was obviously that the bailouts got to his remaining conscience.

Find what remains of their conscience and speak to it, directly. That's how to do it, with at least 90% of them. Modern Conservatism is a systematic, highly articulated set of lies, and as such is vulnerable to questioning. They may not become piss-n-vinegar Progressives, but they generally do "come over". The ones who remain Republican take more of a liking to Meghan McCain, Mark Perkel, and Dick Lugar.

That's my observation, anyway.

After a couple of drinks, a moderate Republican friend confided that he sometimes wishes his party would nominate Sarah Palin for president, get its clock cleaned, then go back to being old-fashioned, thinking conservatives. I ventured that the angry right is not the all-powerful force it purports to be. The Republican leadership might figure this out before the 2012 election and stand up to its incoherent demands.

(http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2011/02/03/missing_moderate_republicans_108755.html">Froma Harrop at Real Clear Politics: "Missing Republican Moderates" (Conservative site & author).

As a Democrat, I'm NOT pining for a moderate Republican resurgence -- the moderate Republicans are. The point is to move the center as far to the Left as it will go.

if you have not identified and shamed those who are working actively against us, then you aren't helping matters. We cannot pretend that there is no war going on.

15. I have a simple high school degree and I can see we are being used and abused. Even the democratics
aren't really fighting for us. Nothing is going to happen until people finally have had enough shit that they will take to the sreets. Obama is no better then the rest of them. I thought he would be something different and in the end he has no more power then the corporations will allow him to have. I'm to the point why bother to vote. No care about the middle class or working poor in this country.

All this "Democrat/Republican" bullshit is BULLSHIT. It's a handful of extremely wealthy interests vs. everyone else, and has been for a long time.

What's bizarre is that people in our own corporate media will use phrases like "social wedge issue" casually, without ever acknowledging what such the term-- and tactic-- implies.

20. As I believe you in another thread posted...........
It is PAST time for an economics only populist movement from the left. If somebody asks about any of those wedge issues, you just politely tell them that that's for an individual to decide and point out it doesn't matter if you can't find work to feed your family. Either that or ignore the wedge issue question all together. All economic justice all of the time.

23. Another great rant from the blog entitled: Conservative Science: Yur Doon It Rong
By the wonderful Tom Levenson who posts occasionally there.

It's not long, even though he talks about previous posts, you don't have to back track to get it. He's a very smart, funny guy.

24. And my all time favorite John Cole post when he switched parties. Perfect rant.
I had meant to re-register independent (or as it is known here in West Virginia, “No Party Affiliation”) for the past two weeks after I had finally had enough of the bullshit during the Graeme Frost escapade, but never got around to it (and it really was not that big of a deal, I had made the mental commitment, which is what matters). I had to pick up a registered letter for an unrelated issue, so I went to the Court House to the Voter Registration Office.

I had intended to register independent, but when I got there to do it, I had a moment of clarity- there seemed to be no point leaving the Republican party in protest and joining the unwashed masses. If I really was going to protest, it made no sense to not commit to the opposition party. Besides, as a Republican all these years, I never had any problem voting for libertarians, Democrats, etc., I don’t see why being a Democrat will change anything. And, the 2008 election really is the most important election of my lifetime- the basic foundation of our country has been under assault for a while, now, and I want to vote in the Democratic primary as a Democrat, not as someone with no party affiliation. I want to send a message, and as small as this gesture (which should appropriately be interpreted as a middle finger to the GOP and not as a sloppy wet kiss to Nancy Pelosi) is, I want it to mean as much as possible. There is now one less Republican in WV, and one more Democrat.

Long story short, I got up there to register as an independent, said “Fuck it,” and now I am a Democrat. I certainly don’t agree with all their positions, but they are not bat-shit crazy like the GOP. That has to count for something. Additionally, I no longer have to read posts by the 24% crowd calling me a “true conservative” with quotes o’sarcasm (you know who they are). Not any more, bitches. I repudiate you, your party, and whatever the fuck it is you are currently pretending is “conservatism.” It isn’t.

Now send me my check from Soros and the 40 virgins.
