Donald Trump Terrifies a Roomful of Conservatives
The first day of this year's all-important Conservative Political Action Conference, a summit for top Republican politicians and operatives heading into a presidential election cycle, wasn't dominated by Newt Gingrich or Tim Pawlenty or any other actual Republican politician. It was Donald Trump, the wealthy television clown, who stole the show with the blunt, meandering speech he'd invited himself to deliver at the last minute.
Why was Donald Trump even at this conference for dyed-in-the-wool conservative activists and humorless Ayn Rand cultists? Apparently he's still pretending to consider a run for the Republican presidential nomination, just like he was four months ago. And in his speech today he said he'd reach a decision by June, which gives him another four months to win cheap headlines by pretending to consider a run for president.
His speech, like all good Donald Trump speeches, was a stream-of-consciousness flushing of whatever arrogant quips were swirling through his thick head at the time.
"If I run and if I win," he said, "this country will be respected again. I can tell you that.""The United States has become a whipping post for the rest of the world," he said. "The world is treating us without respect — they are not treating us properly.

2. The United States does not deserve respect.
It has not corrected the beer and travel money due to me.

It also has ran an empire for a few with money. And defended that empire with military and propaganda power.

You want respect, correct things, including the money for beer and travel that is due to me.

20. I doubt he'd accept second billing.
She certainly wouldn't, a second time. It'd be fun to watch that little tussle.

He'd be horrible. Someone that hard-wired for business would not get it, especially one as imperious and ego-driven as the Donald. When you're a CEO you're king of your own kingdom. When you're in public service, you actually do have to listen to other people.

7. I love this part
"By the way, Ron Paul cannot get elected, I'm sorry," he responded, prompting the negative response. "I like Ron Paul. I think he's a good guy. But really he has just zero chance of getting elected."An audience member yelled out: "You have no chance either!"

" Trump apparently isn't very familiar with Republican conferences or early presidential straw polls. If he was, he'd know that saying "Ron Paul cannot get elected" directly to the Paul supporters' faces is, in the minds of Paul cultists, a declaration of nuclear war. Donald Trump should expect at least one billion raging ALL CAPS emails with V for Vendetta quotes from the Paul crowd in the next week."

11. The other thing I find funny about that comment is...
What has Donald Trump ever won?
He's never held office, so he can't claim that he is more electable with anything to back up his claim.

Reading exerpts from his speech, he's a frickin' loon as well. Eliminate gov't health and outlaw abortion.

10. K&R #2 for, you beat me to it and hilarious Gawker!1
Edited on Thu Feb-10-11 07:03 PM by UTUSN
Gawker just did that thing my favorite 2 websites do (this one being the first one), TINKERING WITH THE DANGED FORMAT THAT IS JUST FINE!!!!!!!!!!1

The launch day was a mess and the new format was horrible. I did the usual, useless thing, e-mailed this sentiment that change ought to be an improvement and the new format wasn't. The reply was the usual, "We're working on the glitches and hope you bear with us and give it a chance."

Plus, just noticed when I was about to post that the link was just "gawker.com" not the previous individual links to the specific article.

On Edit: Whups, I see that the O.P.'s link *does* link to the specific article, will check mine:

http://gawker.com/ Nope, I just get the general link to the whole site. It's the one from the address URL inside the article...?

17. Trump understands his base!
Get them obsessed with whether or not we're "respected" by the World. Make 'em think we'll treat the world like the Top Dogs we are and they'll LIKE it damn it! Not that we don't still do that just more behind the scenes. Meanwhile, it's open season on their dwindling financial resources.

Trump does NOT respect the people in that audience. I'm quite sure he laughs at them behind closed doors.
