6 Mistakes Could Sabotage Women's Careers
Career Counselors: Trying To Please Could Hold Women Back

ORLANDO, Fla. -- As more and more women enter the work force, the numbers show few are finding themselves in the coveted corner office. In fact, a study done in December by Catalyst, a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding opportunities for women in the workplace, women account for only 14.4 percent of executive positions.

And government studies show women continue to earn less than men-- 81 cents for every dollar their male counterparts earn.

So what are women doing that could be keeping them from earning more money and power? Career experts with Navigator Executive Advisors say women may be sabotaging their careers. They helped Local 6 uncover six mistakes women may be making in the workplace.

1. Nice Girl Syndrome:
2.Waiting To Be Called On In Meetings:
3.Fears "B**** Label:
4.Using Qualifying Language:
5.Polling Before Deciding:
6.Women Don’t Ask:

1. Women need to continue to form their own businesses and eschew the male
business paradigm.

3. I don't know about all that. I don't think women have to change
who they are to be successful. As more women make it into higher-level jobs, the way to move up the corporate ladder (and other ladders) will change.

On a related note, I was happy to read that women now make up 50% of medical students.

4. The whole damn
model should change, rather than the women having to read bullshit like that and conform to it.

5. Most of those Points are true. I've been there. I was guilty of
Waiting to be called on in meetings& Using qualiffied language. I'm retired now, but if I could do it over again, I would be much more agressive. That
s the way you get noticed and get promoted. I don't mean be nasty, I mean asserting yourself and not being afraid to say what you think, even if the MEN there disagree. Most of the time you'll be found to be right.

6. I'm a male scientist, and I use "qualifying language" all the time.

I am extremely careful about making definite statements, and so are many of the successful scientists, male and female, that I have met. I think it is the way things should be handled. Unfortunately we live in an age where one would rather have a wrong answer that comes quickly and is presented with confidence, than a right answer that takes time to develop, is considered preliminary, and comes with a recommendations of precaucion.

10. yeah, this reads as if women's fear of being a bitch is unfounded instead of
the number one excuse men use to band against you to try and form a little revolt. Ha, been there, had that happen constantly.
Many men consistantly find issues because they bristle hard at being led by women.
