Why is it that the GOP seems to mistrust the personal actions of the
individual but trusts the market, which is nothing more than a collective of economic action, to do the right thing, to come out with the best possible result for all concerned...

3. Because humans are inherently evil, burdened as we are with Original Sin
And cannot be trusted to do the right thing, due to the susceptibility of people to follow personal greed at any cost. However, when applied to a non-moral single-purpose entity like the Corporation, the mere act of the corporation acting out of greed will reward winning ideas and strategies and eliminate inefficiency due to competition. In the quest for profits all will benefit by better and more products and services for less money.

Real people cannot do that, for in acting greedy they will not compete with other greedy people in the market, but seek to acquire via personal violence and intimidation.
