Brown University to offer course on conservatism
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Brown University is offering a new course on conservatism this spring that its supporters say will help bring ideological balance to the school's offerings.

The course, "Modern Conservatism in America: Conservative Thought in the 20th Century," was developed as part of a project called Conservatism 101.

The project aims to introduce courses on conservatism at universities to bring balance to what its founders see as a heavy bias against conservative thinking in academia.

In a statement, Brown student and project co-developer Terrence George says students at elite schools are often unable to study views "outside of academia's leftist mainstream."

2. I'd take it
Sounds interesting. I wouldn't agree with most of it, but it's always good to learn something outside your current sphere. I guess the whole "know thy enemy" and all.

7. Some of it can be pretty good if they're honest
For example, they could require the students read "Where the Right Went Wrong", and "Fiasco", the book about the Iraq war.

20. History of the klan would also cover their democratic roots.
It wasn't until later that the parties switch ideological roles.

Since this class is set to cover conservative thinking in the 20th century, it would be interesting to see how they handle that switch.

6. Please tell me the tagline is "how conservatism nearly destroyed America"
If it tries to portray conservatives in a positive light, then the course is a fraud.

12. If it were factual and not hyped with conservatism by a RW prof., it could be
quite interesting, in fact, might actually move a RW'er to the LW.

16. If they teach it honestly, eliminating the RW spin....
and only as an academic treatise, I think it would be great. Of course the RW would then have a damned fit.

21. Insulting to animals. Also -
Biology would have nothing to do with a conservatism class, as evolution is a cornerstone of biology and evolution denial is a cornerstone of modern conservatism.

25. Where does Truth, Facts, Reality fit into this new course, if it is supposed to bring balance
against the conservative thinking? The same Conservative that are liers, sociopathic manipulators, guilty of foisting alternate realities and making up stuff as they go along...

"The project aims to introduce courses on conservatism at universities to bring balance to what its founders see as a heavy bias against conservative thinking in academia."

Hopefully, someday they will recognize far right thinking as the mental illness it is.
