WASHINGTON -- The Democratic National Committee plans to pay for its 2012 convention nominating President Barack Obama without donations from political action committees or corporations, a change from past gatherings.

The DNC said Friday that the convention would be the first financed by grass-roots activists and rank-and-file party members. DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse says the funding for the Charlotte, N.C., event would underscore the theme of the "People's Convention."

In addition to banning all cash from registered lobbyists, the DNC also plans to ban donations of more than $100,000.

Since taking over the DNC, Obama's team has refused donations from lobbyists or political action committees. The party's central committee ended the year with almost $16 million in loans and debt, and $6 million in the bank.

1. They must think people are very, very stupid, that they can just keep feeding them shit
indefinitely as their economic pictures deteriorate.

2. And the "superdelegate" business?
Is that being put in the dustbin of history where it properly belongs as well, in restoring the convention to the people?

3. After the way they have treated progressives
they'll have to wait a long time before I give them even a nickel for their convention. I'm also disgusted about having it in a "right to work" state.

5. I'm a resident of that "right to work" state, and I agree 100% with what you said.

I'm glad it is possible for our VERY BROKE state to make a little money off the convention, but Obama's ship already sailed for his "no PAC/no lobbyists" money. That bullshit didn't stop him from kissing the corporatists' asses, not for one minute. He never even TRIED to stop the tax breaks for companies shipping jobs overseas....that would have been a HUGE battle against corporate America. And the slight reforms of wall street were overshadowed by the appointment of wall street protectorates placed at all key points in the government. Are we better off than we would have been with McCain/Palin? Oh hell yes. But as a country, we're still toeing the corporate line the whole way, to the DETRIMENT of society, and to the betterment of the wealthiest class of people.

His promises of less lobbyist/PAC money are too little too late, this time around.

Edited for spelling

8. Wouldn't you have to work for the progressive candidate in the primary?
How does this progressive get nominated without going to the convention?

4. they are cynical bastards, aren't they?
Rather than mockingly calling it the "people's convention", why don't they just assemble peasants at the speaker's podium and spit in their faces?

7. That's the second complaint about the convention
after its location has been complained about.

What's up with this? Who cares? And I thought slogans meant nothing? So why complain about them?

10. It's just an excuse to attack Obama and Democrats.

Next we'll hear that there's something wrong with the building in which the convention is being held. Then there will be a speaker or two to get outraged about. And then Obama will wear the wrong tie for his acceptance speech.

12. Its pretty simple
North Carolina is one of the most anti-union states in the country and various labor organizations have been very clear for over a year now that Charlotte was not a reasonable choice to hold their convention considering how many pro-labor and pro-union people will be attending this convention.

Choosing Charlotte is basically an extremely obvious slap in the face to organized labor considering how adamant they have been that the convention take place in any of the other candidate cities. There is not one unionized hotel in all of Charlotte.

14. I find that hard to believe
I know how anti union NC is but the hotels are chains I thought the union, unionized all the hotels in a chain at the same time.
