Golldurnit, I want to forget Reagan!!!!1
Yeah, of course we need to remember how racist and divisive he was, and how corrupt his administration was (more arrests and convictions in his administration than any other president), and his treason in selling weapons to a nation that had declared war on us while supplying that nation's enemy with weapons to fight them, and THE FACT THAT WHEN WE WANT TO WAR WITH THE SECOND NATION MANY OF THE GUNS WE FACED WERE GUNS WE HAD GIVEN THEM!!, and how he funded terrorists in Central America to destabilize the region, and how his foreign and domestic policies created most of the problems threatening to drag this nation under even now--deregulation, debtor nation status, immense debt, a declining production base, shrinking middle class, failed economic ideology, and on and on...

I come here to escape the constant hagiography and blatant mythology the media broadcasts, and to forget about groups like the Young Americans who oppose every attempt by a publisher or broadcaster to tell the truth about Reagan, forcing them to squash stories honestly critical of Reagan in favor of fuzzy-bunny stories to make him seem likable and effective. If I think of Reagan at all, I want to remember the recent Presidents Poll, where historians shove him further back on the list every time it comes out, and how people, until this recent wave of fake-nostalgia coming even from our own party, were finally starting to realize how much a fraud, a bigot, and a jackass he was.

But no, I come here, and every post is about Reagan! Stop it! Stop it, I beg you. NO MORE POSTS ABOUT THAT MONSTER! I WANT TO NOT THINK ABOUT HIM ANYMORE!! I want to forget his legacy, even if it looks sometimes like America may not survive it.

Thanks for your attention in this matter.

2. I would, except I'm afraid we'd be doomed to repeat him.
Hell, I didn't want to think about him the first time.

3. I wonder
how many Reagan Democrats are on DU?

Not me, I always thought the guy was a phony and war criminal.

Peace,
Tex Shelters

4. Every year the GOOP reminds us
that it's his birthday. Posters on DU shouldn't repeat that reminder.

5. Trivia question: What movie contains two future Presidents?
Answer: Bedtime for Bonzo! Professor Peter Boyd became 40th, and Bonzo became 43rd

8. yes, please
I do remember the stupid mistakes he made and thought that maybe we would know enough to not repeat them, but then W came along and we did it all again. People remember the fall of the soviet union, but they seem to have forgotten all his little wars (Grenada and Panama) that led the republicans to believe that we could just run into all the little countries and tell them what to do. They also forget that he cut so many necessary programs like mental health facilities and put a lot of those people on the street. That he spent tons on the military and then Bush I forced a lot of people out of the military in 1989 or so.

9. I'd love never to hear about him again
but do we have the luxury to ignore his canonization? I think, no.

11. If you want to forget him, a first step might be to make sure
the Democratic Party isn't putting Reagan-loving Democrats in office.

12. I tried that.
And was called all sorts of nasty names for it, and was constantly assured that I was taking a quote out of context and blah blah blah... You probably know what I'm saying.

Sadly, vindication sucks.
