I really feel for the President. I wouldn't want to have to make the choices he's having to make right now, or perhaps I would but they would be vastly different.
He is faced with the deposing of a dictatorial puppet with 30 years of dirt on the Christians In Action's black rendition sites. He was the go to guy when they needed someone roughed up at arms length, but bet your ass they had at least remote observation capability if not skin in the game on site. Most likely both.
So what happens if a democratically elected government in Egypt goes after Mubarak for his own torture program?
Do we bust him for coke like Noriega? Does he have a convenient accident? Pretty high profile for that. Could a trial lead to investigations of the nature of covert relations? Will more CIA agents be tried in absentia? Could it lead to charges against former cabinet level position holders?
I'm sort of a little surprised that I've not heard anything out of the UN on Egypt.
One can hope this is an opportunity for some actual justice and the progress of humanity. Until these sorts of practices are ended worldwide, there is no hope for actual peace.
Oh, I think Mr. ElBaradei would make an excellent investigator.
In Solidarity with the humane of the world, -Hoot
Edit for spelling and P.S.: Send energy my way I had a second interview yesterday and really, really, seriously need the job.
