Homeless dog captures heart of neighborhood
Homeless dog captures heart of neighborhood

A homeless dog who captured the heart of a Sand Spring neighborhood now has a home and a family that loves him.

The Jack Russell terrier, which was rescued by the Mark Battenfield family earlier this month, had attracted the attention of many neighbors along 81 W. Avenue, between Park Road and 10th Street.

“Seems like just about everybody in the neighborhood knew the dog was there and wanted to help,” Battenfield said. “You could leave food for him, but he wouldn’t let you get close. He’d run away every time someone got close to him.

Battenfield, who also unsuccessfully tried to befriend the dog, said one neighbor built a doghouse for the small terrier and would “leave food for him every day at noon.”

“Other people in the neighborhood would leave him food and water and talk about trying to help him,” Battenfield said.
