1. A nauseating waste of money in hard times.
Donate to causes he supports. Unless you think overseas flower growers are hurting badly.

2. ABSOLUTELY!!!
I think we should let him know how much we appreciated his effort. Wish we had 99 more senators just like him.

Howard Dean asked that we donate to Bernie through Act Blue to show our appreciation.

Back-up Bernie Sanders, by Howard Dean and Democracy for America

Bernie is a progressive hero. He has spent his entire life fighting for the poor and the middle class, just as he is now in this tax cut fight.

Make no mistake about it; this tax cut deal that President Obama struck with Republicans may be good short-term politics, but it's not the best course for the country. It’s not fiscally responsible in addressing the deficit, the biggest long-term threat to America. There is no shared pain in this agreement. Instead, this is the easy way out for everybody.

Bernie Sanders didn't back down against long odds -- he had the backbone to stand up and fight for what’s right. Washington needs more bold leadership like Bernie's. Let's make sure that every Democrat in Washington gets the message: when you stand up and fight, we’ll have your back.

Support a progressive hero -- Please contribute $5 right now.

7. it doesn't matter if the flood Vermont
with millions of bucks. That just turns off Vermont voters. Plenty of precedent to demonstrate that.

10. I'm with those who are suggesting either a donation to his campaign or to a good
cause in his name. We could check w/his staff and see if there's a charity he favors, or a Vermont food bank or program for the homeless -

But regardless of what we do, can we get a "movement" going here on DU like you guys did with Helen Thomas? How do we go about that?

I REALLY feel strongly that we should show our appreciation, he really fought for us. And even those who didn't agree with his stance on this, he's always fighting for us all the time.

So - ???

13. Bernie would probably rather see donations to food banks or
to organizations raising money for heating homes this winter. Here's a link to a Brattleboro (Vermont) Reformer story about the continuing effort to raise money to heat homes in the Windham County, Vermont area.

http://www.reformer.com/localnews/ci_16870405

A few paragraphs:

BRATTLEBORO -- The Windham County Heat Fund has begun collecting donations for its sixth year of keeping families warm during the chilly Vermont winters.

Thus far in the 2010 season, organizers have raised about $20,000 since early spring and have assisted 12 to 15 families in the last few weeks.

Richard Davis and Brattleboro Selectboard member Daryl Pillsbury established the heat fund to assist county residents who are not eligible for state or federal fuel assistance programs.

"Some of these people didn’t know their lives were going to change so quickly so either they haven’t applied for fuel assistance, or if they had, they’re not eligible," Davis said. "You can’t anticipate some of these things, but here you are ... all of a sudden you find yourself without a job, your wife’s in the hospital and you got an eighth of a tank of oil and you can’t put anymore in. Those are the kind of people that we help."

To donate to the tax-deductible fund, residents are asked to send checks made out to Windham County Heat Fund: Richard Davis, to 679 Weatherhead Hollow Road, Guilford, Vt., 05301. Direct deposits may also be made to the Windham County Heat Fund at the Brattleboro Savings & Loan.

15. I'd like to see DU do a "group hug" effort -- again, as they did with Helen Thomas.
How do we get that going? I think we'd have some support here. And regardless of the amount, I believe the gesture will mean a lot to him - let him know how much he's appreciated.
