Alan Grayson: The Speech I'd Like To Hear
Edited on Mon Jan-24-11 06:44 PM by sabrina 1
The Speech I'd Like To Hear

"We are at a fork in the road. The Republican House Leadership demonstrated last week that its highest legislative priority is to prevent 30 million Americans from seeing a doctor when they are sick. We can let Republican control of the House of Representatives doom us to no progress, no change, for the next two years. Or I can exercise my powers under the Constitution and our laws to deliver the change we need.

"I choose the latter. As for the Republican leaders, they can lead, follow, or just get out of the way.

"These are the things that I will do now, to give us the good government that we Americans deserve, and the change we need:

> snip

"Third, I will direct Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, the FHA and the VA to include in every home loan that they issue or finance a provision that requires mandatory mediation, at the bank's expense, before foreclosure. Families who are in danger of losing their homes deserve at least that much.

"Fourth, I will direct both the Financial Stability Oversight Council and the Antitrust Division of the Justice Department to break up any financial institution that is considered 'too big to fail.' Too big to fail should mean too big to exist. There will be no more bailouts, no more Wall Street welfare.

"Fifth, I will ask the FBI to investigate and DOJ to prosecute anyone who committed criminal misconduct in connection with the collapse of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, AIG, Bear Stearns, Countrywide, Merrill Lynch, and all the rest. I will ask the SEC to bar such people from publicly traded companies and the capital markets. In the 18 months before I took office, twenty percent of our national wealth was wiped out, and no one has been punished for that. If we leave the same people doing the same things, then those same disasters may well happen again. We can't take that chance.

4. You're welcome ~
I really would love to hear this president demanding accountability from the Wall St. criminals.

6. I sure would, too... *sigh*
Any chance the White House might hire Congressman Grayson as a speech writer? :evilfrown:

10. I doubt it. He's too honest and he's not a friend of
Wall St. But how great would it be to hear some straight talk for a change ~

13. You're right, just wishful thinking on my part...
We love his honesty and outspokenness on the issues, but the president is addressing the entire nation, and not everybody can handle the truth, straight and unadulterated. *sigh*

3. I'd love to hear that as well.
But there is no way in hell we're ever going to get that kind of truth and action. The owners would never stand for it.

12. 'The owners would never stand for it'.
But wouldn't it be great if a Democratic President didn't care what the owners thought and just went ahead and did it anyway? What would they do?

Maybe they would spend a lot of money making sure he didn't win in 2012. But so what? People should run for office with the intention of doing as much good as they can for that one term and if they do that and lose the next election, then they've done their job and over time, with enough people with that attitude, things would begin to change.

16. They would kill him.
That's what they would do. Flat out. They tried to overthrow FDR, they also tried to kill him. They did kill JFK and RFK and MLK. Anyone who would rock their boat would be in serious physical danger. Nowadays they don't have to resort to assassination because all the major candidates are carefully groomed. A person who would do what Grayson suggests would never have a chance to be President. With the media being what it is it's very easy to marginalize any threats.

18. He would definitely not be reelected, that's for sure.
It's sad how coopted our government is. I think Sy Hersch is right about there having been a coup. He's not the only to say it.

11. Thank you, I hadn't seen that ~
I'll go give it a kick and a rec ~

I especially would love to hear Obama go after the criminals who brought down this economy and promise investigations into the corruption that caused it.

But, sad to say, we will never hear anything negative about war criminals or economic criminals from this president.

If climate change caused by anthropogenic global warming continues unchecked, everything else will pale into insignificance.

Thanks for posting, Sabrina.

17. Yes, you are right. Did you ever see the report from the Pentagon
in 2004 placing Climate Change at the top of the list of national security threats? Yet, the media has never touched that story.

Alan Grayson is informed and not afraid to speak about issues many Democrats refuse to mention.

I hope it all hasn't gone too far for us to be able to stop it, Turborama. The world's leaders at the moment don't give me much hope ~
