I don't know if they were afraid of communism per se or just violence, regardless of the reason.
I have no idea, but they were scared.

As I mentioned at the time of the anniversary, someone who was involved in the planning wrote a book and was publicizing it. He said that they were ready to cut the mikes at the uttering of anything that sounded to them like insurrection.

Now, between the Surveillance State and the Security State, I doubt that they worry much these days about any kind of successful uprising.
