Guessing game begins over next Treasury chief

What is "Yet another federal government job no liberal will likely ever hold again," Alex?

Hell, we'll be lucky if any Democrat ever holds that job again, given that both Clinton and Obama have shown marked preferences for Republicans and so-called "former" Republicans in Treasury and Defense posts.

Well, I guess a former Republican would be a new Democrat, like Panetta, or at least a new "Independent," like Timmeh.

Anyway, apparently Timmeh has said he is leaving Treasury, even if Obama is re-elected.

"The next Treasury secretary is probably going to hold the most important job next to the president," said Sung Won Sohn, an economics professor at California State University Channel Islands.

If Congress does not act, income tax cuts put in place under Republican former President George W. Bush are due to end for millions of Americans while automatic federal spending cuts would go into effect as mandated under last year's deal to raise the U.S. debt limit.
