Poll question: if part or all of DU2 isn't left up for us, will you go to DU3?
Edited on Sat Dec-24-11 06:44 AM by Divine Discontent
in my post below, I stated hope that previously registered users (so no worries and few probs) of DU2 would be allowed to have all or even part of DU2 left up for us if at all possible, so my question is, if all of DU2 is shutdown, will you be spending your political/social surfing time on the new DU?

1. I will go elsewhere for my reasons, foremost among them being
that I cannot stand another unwarranted "improvement" in my life. There comes a point when the boiled frog either leaps out of the pot or becomes dinner. IMO, DU3 can eat it all by theyself.

3. I think of it a little this way...
Edited on Sat Dec-24-11 07:12 AM by Divine Discontent
a company gains all kinds of buyers providing a product that the people who try it grow to really like. now, if that company goes and changes the design of the item and its appearance and adds new mechanisms in how you use and view the product, there's gonna be a decent amount of people who say, I liked the old product that you made better, and will look elsewhere to find something that reminds me of that one that I really enjoyed.

I'm not saying DU3 is bad and that they won't keep working on it, I'm saying DU2 is good and I don't need or want anything different when it comes to how I express myself on the net, so if I'm going to be forced to be without this product I will spend my time on other news sites I already comment on (reuters, yahoo, msnbc, CBS, usatoday), and avoid the ones that don't work or look the way I would like or make me upset (Huff/AOL, dailykos).

I hope we're left with something here, but ain't holding my breath either. I guess its wait and see. maybe we'll be given a gift, who knows.

4. On the matter of "product design", I compare Pontiac to Porsche:
Not that Pontiac, per se, should take the brunt of this, mind you.

But I've long observed how European brands have historically differed from American brands in the following fashion in particular.

At least through the 50's, 60's, and 70's, European models would not change terribly much from year to year, and parts were largely interchangeable across several years, more so than American cars which tended to change from year to year more than needed.

This, I determined, was a result of the marketing mindset, not an engineer's mindset.

Fine if you want to improve the carburetors or suspension, but the body form and dashboard layouts stay as they are until something clearly better comes along: that's the Porsche mentality.

The Pontiac mentality is built around marketing, fashion, and they didn't even often bother asking customers what they thought.

Why why why must DU3 LOOK so much different??? Why all the changes all at once?

I can understand the shift to using juries over moderators, I can understand some of the other "under the hood" changes, but I cannot fathom why the change in the look and feel, the user interface, that's been forced upon us.

And by the way, what became of Pontiac???

Oh, yeah... Gone, and largely forgotten.

Happy Holiday!

9. I like Porsche too,
Edited on Sat Dec-24-11 03:18 PM by bvar22
...but power shifting that 389HP Pontiac V8 between 1st & 2nd with the trips wide open in a 68 GTO
made my heart beat faster than any Porsche EVER will.

If it was simply the performance, I wouldn't have a big problem.
Its the other things that are the problem.

I can enjoy driving well made American Iron and the European fluff too.
I currently drive and enjoy a 1999 4WD Off Road FORD light pick up,
because no Porsche will ever make it up the road to my house.
The truck is rugged and dependable.
Parts are cheap, and I can fix it myself.
Try THAT with a Porsche.

25. Well, I still have my Grand Am. Great car! Looks much like that. :)
When I was a kid, I always wanted a Firebird. There was some game show where they gave a car to the winner. They had to choose among Pontiacs and the key they were given had to start the right vehicle. I never could understand when anyone chose something other than the Firebird, LOL. My mother always had Pontiacs and a Pontiac was the first car of my parents that I remember... *sigh* :( :hi:

26. We owned a early '70s era Grand Prix back in the '80s.
My youngest daughter, who was just learning to read then, called it a Grand Pricks, which was pretty funny to us.

is so apt. Absolutely baffling when a site as successful as DU makes dramatic changes.

2. Other.
Since I can't access DU3, I cannot say. But there are several people that I trust on DU2 that do not like DU3. If by some unforeseen change I manage to get a look at DU3 then I will decide.

7. I can see myself posting there in a limited way.
But I cannot see myself enjoying it or feeling safe there. The flaws in the new system cripple its fairness and effectiveness. I may maintain an account to check in on old friends, but I absolutely hate that place. I will look for alternatives until I can find an entirely new community.

31. That's the way I feel. I don't want to totally lose touch with old "friends".
But I will not go there as often. Also, for me, it is not user friendly.

It also makes me feel claustrophobic. I feel like everybody is in their little corral/behind some kind of fence. :(

11. Probably not.
I have no desire to subject myself to the election season battles, and once my $10 membership is up next November, I don't think I'll be inclined to cut loose with $42 a year just for the privilege of talking with the few people I still care deeply about over there. I see most of them other places anyway.

Very sad. For me, I've had to let go of the Dem Party, and now DU. I really feel rather lost and like the rug has been pulled out from under neath me. But my mother used to tell me that God doesn't close a door without opening a window. I will hold on to my mother's words.

Wishing you the best of the holiday season DesertFlower :loveya:

I'll probably check in over there once in a great while, when something eventful occurs (new drone murders, another war declared, more unwarranted military interventions, the rounding up of peaceful protesters nationwide), but I doubt I'll be satisfied with the general tone and probably will not log in.

Maybe a year from now...

29. I voted "other"
...have taken a wait and see attitude - though I can tell you straight away that I have real problems with some of the ads, i.e., Fillipino girls.com (Look for it - on the left hand side of some of the DU3 pages.)

Unless that dissolves soon, I am no at all likely to frequent as an active contributor (let alone paying a $$ fee of 40 something dollars to indirectly support this human trafficking!) ~

but I still don't think I will post there much. I don't want to be in a place where I have weigh each word so carefully because of bullies. If I post much of anything it will be bland type statements like "I agree with the OP bla bla bla".:-(

35. I selected other for various reasons.
I don't like the jury system, the combination of GD and GDP, and the site just drives my eyes crazy. Don't have a clue what I will do now, but I have almost zero desire to start any posts over there except on the sports forum. Hopefully, they can fix the shipwreck they created. It's like a baseball coach that took his star .300 hitter and decided to change his stance and swing to make it better. Now the dude his hitting .190, and many team members are saying "what the fuck happened here".
