In case we get raptured,
I just want to take this opportunity to say how much I have enjoyed hanging out here with my fellow dead-enders for these past few weeks. I have no plans to post at DU3 until after the election , and maybe not even then since I don't intend to buy in to the increased fees when my star expires next year. I'm not a "fall-in-line" kind of person, and I feel very uncomfortable over there now, so I'm here until the end and then -- poof -- I'll be gone.

DU has been my home for seven years, and I will miss you, but I'm sure I'll be seeing many of you elsewhere.

I love you guys.

1. Rapture, Schmature....Love you too, Blue. I'll miss DU.
I've been here since the idiot-in-chief stole the first election. That's a long time and a lot of people I've come to know and respect. I won't be going over to DU3 either. It's just not my cup of tea to be told how to think. I'm a rebel...always have been, always will be and too old to change!

22. I've been lurking since DU1
I didn't know it had been that long! I joined during DU2, when I finally decided to speak up. Now it's hard to shut me up, LOL!

I think being rebellious is part of being a Democrat, which is why I can't understand those who would have us march in lock-step. I think it was Randi Rhodes who said you can't get two liberals to agree on how to change a light bulb, let alone anything else!

I was on Smirking Chimp a LONG time ago, and I've heard of some other forums here...I don't like the Daily Kos interface, so I won't be going there.

I wonder if it would be against the rules for us to decide where to meet, when DU2 does bite the dust?

14. I have such mixed feelings!
Edited on Thu Dec-22-11 10:12 PM by scarletwoman
I've actually been enjoying myself on DU3 more than I have in years.

I pretty much stopped posting here (on DU2) quite some time ago, because it just didn't seem worth the trouble.

I've burnt out on politics, but not on connecting with people. So, thanks to the Meta forum on DU3, I've been having a wonderful time connecting with people in a place where politics, per se, is not the central focus.

It's entirely possible that the happiness I've found there will fade over time. However, I'll live in the now, and deal with whatever happens when it happens.

Maybe because I've been through so many abrupt changes in my life - sudden deaths of loved ones and unforeseen relocations - that I haven't found it that difficult to adjust to a new iteration of DU.

Anyway, I just want to tell you that you will always be a precious connection to me, and that our interactions over all these years has meant more than I can say.

Love always,
sw

Edited on Thu Dec-22-11 09:45 PM by scarletwoman
I hope we will keep in contact - as soon as I finish posting this I'll pm you my email addy.

I've been hanging out on DU3 pretty much exclusively since it went live. And honestly, I've been having a great time - most likely because the only forum I've been really spending any significant time in has been the "Help and Meta-Discussion" forum.

I've dipped into the DU3 GD forum now and again, but I find that it's just not that interesting to me. I've been really enjoying the honest and forthright exchanges I've been having with fellow DUers in the "Meta" forum. Lots of humor, and lots of friendliness and mutual assistance.

For sure Meta has its whiners and complainers, but on the whole, there's lots of community feeling going on there, and it's fairly easy to avoid the perpetually angry and those who are who determined to cling to their precious outrage and alleged victimhood.

The thing is, I was hardly ever posting anything in DU2 anyway. It just didn't seem worth the effort. Since I've been over on DU3 in the Meta forum, I've been posting more than I have in years. I've really felt energized by having access to such a new and different outlet for my thoughts.

I feel very sad about seeing so many old DUers I care about not wanting to participate in DU3. I do understand where you all are coming from, and it is not my intention to in any way seek to prod you to go there. In fact, I worry that I might be somehow betraying old friendships here by finding myself happily settling into DU3.

I will never forget all the good people here, and I will mourn their absence. And if you, Blue, truly mean to go away, please do not forget me either.

After all, we share a brain... :D

15. I was usually a General Discussion person at DU,
and that's where I was trying to assimilate myself at DU3, but it just didn't work for me. So much arguing and really outrageously over-the-top posts that just turned me off. Just for you, I may go lurk over at that Meta forum, but only to see if your perception is correct or if you've suddenly lost your mind. We do share a brain, after all. I'm paid up for a year; nothing says I have to post anything.

16. Well, if I've lost my mind, it must mean that YOU have it!
I was always a GD denizen, too. And you're totally right, it's not the same GD over there now.

The thing is, I don't really care. I'm not interested in arguing politics anymore. The bullshit just keeps getting deeper, and even what I once sort of considered "my side" seems to be going off the deep end as well.

My innate cynicism has won the day - I'm now reduced to hoping that the end date in the Mayan calendar might actually mean something, and everyone will be forced to just shut up and keep bailing. :P

17. I've been enjoying the Meta Forum myself.
Especially the outrage over the jury. Both sides want the other side to be stifled and it isn't happening. Most juries seem really open to freedom of speech no matter how annoying it gets.

18.  I've posted some stuff over on DU3 but it isn't the same feeling.
I've been here since 2002 (previously hoping4change). I've never been a big poster but I am indebited to all who have opened my eyes. Before DU I was one of those who believed M$M's crap about Saddam having WMDs. I remember the first day I came here. I knew immediately this would be a source of information I wasn't getting elswhere and the thing that pulled me right in was DU's look so I am still stunned that the distinctive and friendly "look" of DU2 has been replaced by something that to my eyes looks so corporate. I am also puzzled by the decision that only star members can opt for the "classic" look. IMHO that is a big mistake. I think the classic look is a better hook for newbies.

I sympathize, I get the reasoning, but we can't advance civilization by becoming uncivilized ourselves. Bush/Cheney proved that.

30. Blue, you have been one of my most important -
and dear! - DU friends over the years. I've been here for 7 years, too, and also don't feel like DU3 is the "real" DU community I have loved and supported, and that has loved and supported me. I also probably won't pay the increased fees for posting privileges next year, but have yet to find another online political forum I feel comfortable in. At least I can read the headlines (still the best source for news!) and see you when you bop onto facebook.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Dear Friend!

That wasn't already over here.

It seems that the Obama feud moved over there lock, stock, and barrel. Both 'sides' are still having at it, and neither 'side' is being repressed.

Hell, I even posted the suggestion that we be honest about each-other's positions and that was turned into a flame war. None of the Obama critics were chastised for attacking the OP, so I'm pretty sure it's safe for any PoV at this point.

Sure, I pointed out that there were dishonest critics, and then a bunch of critics deliberately LIED about the OP. They were left pretty much alone even though they proved my conclusions correct.

So, yeah, right now it's a pretty safe-haven for the critics.

And I'll miss you here.

There has always been an Alaskan buried inside me.
In fact, I was headed there in 1998,
and while passing through Minnesota on the way,
I met my wife living on a houseboat in the Mississippi River,
so I decided to do the houseboat thing for a while.
Wound up staying for seven years, all the time telling people that I was
"just passing through on my way to Alaska."

Somehow, we wound up in the Arkansas woods
where about the only thing we share is a close State Abbreviation with Alaska.
