Imagine a Bachmann / Santorum ticket.

$2 gas and -$1.3 trillion federal budget.

1. Oh, give me details!
Where's the money going to come from? What programs for the poor, elderly and at risk are you going to cut?

Come on, man, the devil is in the details!

2. It really is a circus show now
I can't wrap my mind around how surreal it's becoming.

4. He'd have to disappear the entire federal government and then some.
Edited on Wed Dec-07-11 01:44 AM by WildNovember

That's $3.5 trillion.

Maybe he can't tell his billions from his trillions, the little moron.

3. The entire GDP of the US is $14.5 trillion. The entire 2010 federal budget was $3.5 trillion.
Keep this clown away from government. Oh, wait, too late.

8. Check out the comments at the site.....some there think this would be a good idea.
It's easy to understand how a Santorum/Bachmann/Perry/Cain/Palin get to the top of the Party when you have a base that thinks this would be a terrific fiscal policy idea.

9. I can't imagine that anyone really thinks that would be a good idea.
I think the nuts are on parade because whoever's really in charge of the show just wants everyone totally confused and unable to tell what's really going on.

14. Some of the economists commenting on the site are correcting their fellow geniuses.
It's not the budget, it's the deficit! Hasn't anyone told them that the deficit can't be cut, it can only be paid off? Jesus, it really isn't difficult to fathom how totally screwed this country is when we have 50% of the voting population who think there are no consequences to vaporizing 80% of the federal budget. I'm only surprised Rick didn't up the ante by adding that he'd cut 300MM Americans a check for $16,500.00 - each person's share of the savings. He'd smoke Newt in polls.

13. so to get that money he'd have to do away with any and all
much needed programs for the poor, the children, the elderly, while selling off america bit by bit to the global corporations who could give a fek about this country or its people as long as they make a profit and garner even more power. I'd say some of his followers better take that tattered flag off their vehicle and replace it with the multiple corporate logo.

Selling this country and its' people down the road, isn't just whoredom, it's down right traitorous.

6. If that's all it takes, then I'll cut 14.5 trillion
in my first 30 days. Of course, I'll have every citizen in the CONUS trying to hack me to death with long blades and rightly so.

10. you guys are slipping. no one countered w/ $5 brazilian yet?
i don't know if i'd laugh, cry, or pee my pants if a republican candidate ever used brazilian as a numerical value, but at this rate, just like the sun rises in the east, that day must surely come.

11. I guess the $5 trillion won't come from ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan on Day One.

12. I can cut 5 trillion too!
5 dollars less in planned military spending each year for the next trillion years! Might even get CONgress to pass that!

Nothing matters unless details and timelines are given.

16. it's $5 trillion over the next 5 years
but that is still draconian. Here's slightly more detail:

Those cuts would include everything from entitlement program reform to spending cuts on domestic spending, he explained.

Entitlement programs are government programs providing payments to those who meet requirements which means they are entitled to the benefits.

"I will freeze defense spending, but I will not cut defense spending, which is the highest and most important priority of the federal government," Santorum said.
...
Santorum told the group he would cut the food stamp program, describing it as one of the fastest growing programs in Washington, D.C.

http://www.lemarssentinel.com/story/1791578.html

I suspect that, since Santorum is on record as saying suffering is good for people, and necessary, that 'cutting the food stamp program' means abolishing it.

17. Hungry people
Are desperate people. That would be the quickest way to reduce us to a third world nation, especially considering how many weapons the population has. I'm thinking we would be one step away from Somalia. That sounds GREAT to the people who forget that they aren't the only ones with guns. There are a lot of military families on food stamps, too.

Who is going to tell our soldiers that their kids can no longer eat? THAT would go over well.
