Something that I was thinking about now that Cenk Uygur's show premières on CurrentTV today

Normally I turn MSNBC on in the middle of the afternoon and that is where it stays until Lawrence O'Donnell's show is over (I watch Keith's Countdown on the repeat so that I don't have to do a lot of switching channels)

But today, because of Cenk's new show my schedule will be
MSNBC - Hardball and Al
CurrentTV - Cenk
MSNBC - Ed, Rachel, Lawerce
CurrentTV - Keith

So this is what I was thinking...

I wonder why Comcast hasn't come up with the idea/option of letting their customers program their cable boxes to do the switching of channels automatically? I know that the cable company/box is able now to switch channels when there are 'two' programs set up to 'record'. So it seems like they would be able to give us the option to set up a 'channel switching' option for when we're watching 'live' TV :)

That would be pretty cool, eh?

2. I'm with you...
Can't wait for Cenk @ 7pm! The box my cable provider, Time Warner, providd does allow for reminder timers, but not actual channel-switching. My guess is that lobbyists for BIG MEDIA told them to not install such a feature

3. I embrace your embracing of both, of all, of Al and of Cenk
and of Keith and Larry. I think it is groovacious that there is a choice, a switch, options free of CNN/Foxdom. This is the healthiest day for more liberal media on cable ever.
And as usual, since before KO went there, I encourage all DUers to watch Current Vanguard episodes on the air or online, the best in depth field reporting on TV today. Even if you loathe and despise KO or Cenk, Vanguard is the best thing since sliced news.

4. Motorola digital cable boxes will do this...
If you bring up the program info, look for an eye icon or something captioned "watch this program". The Motorola boxes we have on Charter have this, and I know that Comcast uses Motorola equipment in some areas. Scientific Atlanta/Cisco also make digital cable boxes -- they may or may not support a similar feature.

Unfortunately, we don't have CurrentTV on Charter.

8. Okay I checked that out and ...
there is a little eye on mine too.

BUT that only takes you to that channel IF the show is already on, it doesn't do anything if you click on it if the show comes on in the future - there's no way to tell it to do it 'everyday' for all the shows in the future.

I clicked the eye icon and at 5:30pm Texas time - the channel did not change at 7pm ;(

Anyway, thanks for the tip even though it didn't work.

5. What's so hard about switching from Keith on Current
and then to Rachel on MSNBC. On Comcast, Current is on Channel 107 and MSNBC is Channel 120. Just scroll down from 107 to 120. No big deal.

7. Al to Cenk to Ed/Rachel/Lawrence to Keith EVERDAY

means switching channels close to an extra 1000 times per year in order to watch the same shows each day.

My point was it would be more convenient if there was an option in the cable box that could be set up one time and then for it to be done automatically.

My TV is in the den, I have a speaker wired outside on my patio for the audio from the TV (since that is where my laptop and my ashtray are) and I am also in the kitchen a lot.
It would just be nice if I didn't have to keep running around changing the station so many time :)

6. I watch PBS NewsHour instead of frickin Al Sharpton
and right after that I'd watch TYT. PBS NewsHour should be live in most East Coast regions (for example: WLIW in NYC and Maryland Public Television in DC/Baltimore/N. Virginia) as well as some places elsewhere, such as in the San Francisco area where I am, at 6PM Eastern/3PM Pacific. Or online at Ustream.tv/pbsnewshour.

I watch the MSNBC hosts and Keith on Current via online video since I lack cable.

9. Sorry...but from what I've seen of your posts...you aren't a "Cenk" fan...and wouldn't
watch if the Cable Company came down from Cable Fiefdom and handed you a "FREE CARD."

But, that's just my impression of what I've seen of you since viewing your posts.

I don't need to bother with the shit on US Cable, though. Since there are many other alternatives these days.

11. Well you are totally wrong.
Edited on Mon Dec-05-11 09:27 PM by Tx4obama
For several months I was always posting on DU about wanting Cenk to get his own show on MSNBC before MSNBC gave him one.
I watched Cenk on MSNBC everyday when he was finally on.
I've posted MANY times that I wanted Current TV to give him his own show over there with Keith.
And now I will watch Cenk everyday on Current TV.

Perhaps you've confused me with someone else?

10. I think DirecTV did that
but I'm with comcast now. I think the best you can do is a Reminder which allows you to click to the channel.
