hilarious! Fox Rips 'Commie' Muppets

(Newser) – Say it ain't so, Kermit. Don't tell us you've gone all Commie and are launching class warfare. Fox TV says you have. "We're teaching our kids class warfare," groused Follow the Money host Eric Bolling about the new Muppets movie. "Where are we, communist China?" He's particularly irritated that the wealthy villain in the Muppets movie is named Tex Richman, who aims to tear down the Muppets theater so he can drill for oil.

"It's brainwashing in the most obvious form," chimed in fellow Fox commentator Andrea Tantaros. "I just wish liberals could just leave little kids alone!" Also piling on top the Muppets was a spokesman from the conservative Media Research Center, notes the Daily Mail. "It's amazing how far the left will go to manipulate your kids to give the anti-corporate message," said Dan Gainor.

1. Can you imagine if Fox had been around when
"It's a Wonderful Life" had been made. "Look how they villify the job creator, Mr. Potter! What is this, Soviet Russia?"

6. Oh the RW still villifies "It's a Wonderful Life."
Every year around the time it plays, I hear at a least a couple of RW pundits, either on radio or TV, damning the movie for being some sort of communist propaganda.

11. Which is funny because the movie depicts a Republican fantasy world
As everyone knows the director was a lifelong Republican, when your banks fail, rich people steal your money, you fall through the ice and need emergency attention who do you turn to... not the government you turn to George Bailey. The people magically have just a little extra set aside to save George at the end. Because charity not big government was suppose to be the answer to everything. That Republicans hate a movie that is suppose to demonstrate Republican ideals is frankly why the modern Republican party is a dead institution. The modern Republican doesn't even understand how their world ideally was suppose to work.

19. Pretty much sums it up.
The party isn't fueled anymore by a coherent vision for the world, so much as it is fueled by contempt for whatever groups they don't like...

I mean, you've got to scratch your head when people rail against government because they feel like too much economic power is concentrated in the hands of government bureaucrats, but when economic power is concentrated in the hands of an equally small (if not smaller!) number of private sector bureaucrats they step all over each other to defend this state of affairs...

22. you don't even have to imagine it
According to Professor John Noakes of Franklin and Marshall College, the FBI thought Life smeared American values such as wealth and free enterprise while glorifying anti-American values such as the triumph of the common man.

The FBI specifically detested the way Mr. Potter was portrayed:

The casting of Lionel Barrymore as a "scrooge-type" resulted in the loathsome Mr. Potter becoming the most hated person in the film. According to the official FBI report, "this was a common trick used by the communists."

http://www.wisebread.com/fbi-considered-its-a-wonderful-life-communist-propaganda#memo1

Files include FBI "reviews" of main stream films it believed communist writers, directors, and actors successfully inserted communist propaganda into. Analysis of the plot points of Frank Capra's movie "It's a Wonderful Life", finds communist tricks to make bankers and the rich look bad. Analysis cites a comparison of the movie to a Russian film made 15 years earlier titled "The Letter."

I must say that it seems like everyday as time goes on,the right wing conservatives element of America gets more insane.
they will soon find that Daffy Duck, the roadrunner and similar Disney cartoons are devil inspired or
anti Christian,and ant capitalism.
they are some sick people, and that makes them ever more dangerous to whats left of our privacy individual rights, freedom and democracy

16. You very well might enjoy it.
We saw it with our 5 year old daughter and we probably enjoyed it more than she did. It's clearly a labor of love for Jason Segal, he's wanted to do a Muppet movie for quite some time. It's one of the least cynical movies I've ever seen, yet it was funny and maybe even a little hip. It's also one of the best reviewed movies of the year with a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. You might be rather surprised.

23. Geez.....
...what are they going to do next? Play music backwards for secret satanic words? read the phone book backwards for secret commie messages? Or maybe only state approved movies that glorify right wing ideology should be made?

Sad thing about this, some would think this is a good idea.

29. It's quite a stretch to call the movie noticeably liberal, let alone 'communist'
Edited on Mon Dec-05-11 01:59 PM by RZM
Some movies do have obvious political messages, but this really isn't one of them. The only thing that could be construed as political at all is mentioned in the OP - the oil baron villain. He's never specifically shown as politically conservative though, just rich and greedy. I imagine you're supposed to infer that he's conservative, but that's never emphasized. Actually, there is a scene where he raps, so maybe he isn't a conservative after all ;). You could make a case that there is an anti-corporate message, but not a particularly strong one.

I think that it's usually necessary for the protagonists to be somewhat political if a movie wants to get across a political message and that's totally absent here. The muppets behave the same way they did 30 years ago. They sing, dance, pull off gags and have fun. There's not a single example from the movie of any of the protagonists saying anything even remotely political.

33. It's the inference that they object to. You list quite clearly what sickens them.
Edited on Mon Dec-05-11 02:10 PM by EOTE
That it's only inferred makes them even angrier. They know that Tex Richman is the epitome of the modern day conservative, but they can't really lash out against that because then they'd be admitting it. So instead they make up stuff about communism and such.

I consider brainwashing to be the interjection of false ideas.

Greedy men ARE greedy. That's why we call them greedy men. How do you consider factual ideas brainwashing?
