Christian video game promoting murder of non-believers
Well, I did my normal morning routine of checking Facebook, checking Current, and floating about the internet to find out some interesting information and I came across this. A friend on Facebook posted this link, and I was absolutely appalled.

"A video game about a Christian militia slaughtering Jewish and atheist New Yorkers who won't be converted in the name of a particular brand of Christianity will be on the shelves of more than 10,000 American retailers in time for the Christmas season, including Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Target, Circuit City, GameStop, EB Games, CompUSA, Amazon.com, Costco and numerous others. The video game is a spinoff of the wildly successful collaborative novels about "the rapture" by conservative fundamentalist minister Tim Lahaye and the guy who used to write the dialogue for the Gil Thorpe comic strip, Jerry Jenkins."

Its amazing how stupid fundamentalists are. Do they even read the Bible? Last I checked there was a commandment that said "Don't kill" and Christ told people to accept and love people perpetually regardless of differences.

7. Irrelevant, really.
Posting outdated material is just a mistake. We've all made them.

8. That was five years ago. Maybe the OP would like to discuss it again,
since the posts you seem to be referring to have long been closed out.

If you don't have a relevant comment, then why bother posting?

11. I post because I wish to say something.
My comment was relevant. Your comment on my comment is not. Please concern yourself with something other than my ability to post on DU. I will post as I see fit, and within the rules of this forum. You can do the same. If you post something with which I disagree, you can count on a response from me. You appear to disagree with my freedom to post on this forum. That is inappropriate, I believe. You post. I post. That's DU for you.

13. The post was about a violent video game. What are your comments about that?
Just as you have the freedom to post on this forum, so does the OP.

14. I made my comments at the time the game was released.
It had peak sales of just $2 million in 2007. It was poorly reviewed. I don't have current sales figures for the game, but given the short life of PC games, I imagine that its sales are just about zero now. It was an awful game, with a horrible concept, but it's not currently an issue. It was at the time.

Of course the OP has the freedom to post. That freedom does not mean, however, that posts are not subject to criticism on any grounds any DUer has for such criticism. Posting very old information is always grounds for criticism here on DU. You may have noticed that in the past.

I suggest that, instead of criticizing my post regarding the age of this information, you praise the OP for posting a relevant article. My criticism of the original post has reasonable grounds, so I'm afraid I don't understand why you bothered to chide me for posting. Can you explain that?

Incidentally, I defended the poster when he/she was criticized for being a newby, just as you did. Have a very nice day. I will not respond to any further posts in this subthread.

5. When in doubt, don't waste your money. there are plenty out there!
Sounds like legitimate controversy to me. And the one thing the american parents can avoid is another confrontation with their children. It is not any opportunity to educate. It contains VIOLENCE and is not clear about WHO the enemy is or WHY there is death. Move on to the better games.

15. Re-release? No thanks.
The issue I am bringing up is its stated re-release this year and larger backing it has from the far right. I have already spoke with a friend that works at the local Wal-Mart and the majority of the workers there are petitioning to have it removed from the inventory.

I am a gamer myself and enjoy the holiday season due to the sheer amount of major titles coming out.

18. "Convert or Kill". How is that any different than what has occurred over centuries?
Why should anyone be surprised that religion is once again showing it's true face. Now, if we had a game with the reverse consequence, then you would have something novel.

20. That's not the message.
The problem isn't with the fact it's a game, but with the fact that this kind of killing will be considered "morally just" by certain fringe Christian groups and they will teach that it is okay to do it if the situation "calls for it." Video games in themselves don't cause violence any more than a bad cup of coffee at the local diner will. It's all about the kids being told that its okay.
