Romney Attacks 'President Obama's' National Labor Relations Board (NLRB)
12/01/11

Republican Mitt Romney on Wednesday slammed the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) for their vote to proceed with a rule allowing "quickie" elections.

“President Obama’s out-of-control labor board continues to trample on the rights of workers, the interests of job creators, and the rule of law," he said in a statement released by his presidential campaign. "The NLRB’s unprecedented proposal to force employees into ‘quickie’ union elections will benefit only union bosses, while preventing employees from making an informed decision about unionization and preventing employers from challenging illegal union activity."

The board voted 2-1 on Wednesday to proceed on a controversial rule to limit litigation surrounding union elections. The board still plans to vote on provisions that would help speed up union elections, but limiting litigation could achieve the same goal.

Romney has included reforming the NLRB, an independent federal agency, as one of the first steps he would take as president.

Republicans Angle To Block New Union Rules

November 30th, 2011

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republicans are maneuvering to short-circuit an effort by Democrats on the National Labor Relations Board to approve rules that would quicken the pace of union elections.

The GOP member of the labor board is threatening to resign his post, which would deny the board a quorum and quash the entire process. At the same time, the House is poised Wednesday to approve a GOP bill aimed at short-circuiting moves (by the NLRB) they consider anti-business. That measure is unlikely to go anywhere in the Senate.

The developments are the latest sign of how intensely business groups are opposing any moves that could help organized labor make new inroads at companies that have long opposed unions . . .

His business relationships are open and unapologetic. Anti-unionism is gospel to the right-wing elite. It infects them like a fever and their followers are willing carriers of their opportunistic propaganda.

I'm in Md. right outside of Baltimore . . . just stocking shelves these days. In my retirement years . . . ;-)

We endorsed the President early on with a little 'Occupy' language mixed in.

Was just talking today about the lack of interest in the younger members in contract matters -- management doesn't even bother to know what's in the contract, talking out of their asses as they cut hours and manipulate longstanding seniority rules to pit newer workers against the older among us. Doesn't look good for the next contract . . . if there is one. No one will say a word.
