Wayne County (MI) officials need the boot after the Meals on Wheels scndal.
NOTE: Under County Exec. Robert Ficano, Wayne County contracted with a Mississippi company that specialized in prison meals. The food seniors received was literally worse than cat food. What's more shameful is that Wayne is a DEMOCRATIC county. Any Democratic administration should know better!

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) - Last week, FOX 2's Charlie LeDuff exposed Wayne County's Meals on Wheels program serving cold and disgusting food to home bound residents. He found people wouldn't eat it.

The county was saving $138,000 annually, which is around the same amount their former development director, Turkia Mullin, got paid in severance after taxes. She has since returned the money.

After much uproar, we've been told Meals on Wheels is being restored — home cooked food will now be delivered every day just like before.

"Last Thursday, we came up with a corrective action plan, and we're going to eliminate the per-prepared, reheated, home delivered meals," said Kevin Kelley, director of Wayne County Senior Services. "We're going back to our old packaging and delivery system, which people have come to expect after 24 years under the county."

1. this incident doesn't make one
look forward to getting old.
it is a reminder that we are social beings, dependent on others for many things. we need to be sure that we provide for those who cannot provide for themselves.

7. I cook for my mother. I cook and freeze 3-4 months of food
that can be heated and eaten. I know she is getting good nourishment every day and it's fun to do that for my mom.

4. No, and that's the tragedy.
The Exec. was a long-time County Sheriff with very strong ties to labor. He was known as one of the good guys. That's what makes this so terrible.

10. So it's not infiltration, it's co-opting and corruption. We need to get the $$ out of politics. n/

12. It's far worse than that
Though I admit "outside money" has undue influence ... the problems here are even darker. Tax payer money is routinely misappropriated for personal gain.

11. And all of these longtime Democrats
can be traced back to Robert McNamara.

He reminded me of Mr. Potter in "It's a Wonderful Life." He had his hands in everything in Wayne Cty.

We need fresh blood.

5. The rot is deep and needs a full cleaning.
Nothing short of a complete change in leadership will help the county, and I'll add to that Snyder just because I see his hand in all of the plotting and scheming in pushing Detroit toward dictatorship, er, an emergency manager.

8. Probably Sodexo Co, who provides the unhealthiest school lunches
in the nation. Wouldn't doubt they're on a roll to take over Meals On Wheels. Cha-ching!
