Is Luke Russert already a lost cause?
A 100% beltway legacy, clearly being groomed for greatness, is subbing for Chuck Todd on The Daily Roadkill. He's so young, so untouched by real journalism, so naive.

Will he develop a curiosity? Will the jeers of his internet saturated peers bring him to the table in any real way? Is there any hope for him or is he already toast?

1. I don't put people in the category of "causes".
I guess that is just me.

2. He's the boy in the bubble
He is immune to what's taking place in the real world and the only thing he has achieved is being a member of the lucky sperm club.

Actually it's irrelevant whether or not he is a lost cause because he is so insignificant anyway.

4. Yes, he's the poster boy for the impropriety of nepotism
His competence is so lacking, he leaves a stain on the reputation of any broadcast that makes use of his 'talents'. It would be better for a show to send out a test signal or even dead air than to give credence to his wispy little meanderings.

7. Flounder Russert is a legacy, MSNBC had to let him in the fratenity.
(I know, the original Flounder wasn't actually a legacy in Animal House ... )

12. Yes he was.
His brother Fred was a Delta. Just saw Animal House for the first time in years last weekend.

Otter: Well of course, usually legacies are pledged automatically. That is unless his brother was a real closet case.

Otter and Boon (simultaneously): Like Fred.

16. Haha ... I had it switched in my head.
I was thinking Pinto was the legacy, and Flounder got in because they needed the dues.

So I was more correct than I realized.

Which is great, I can now keep calling baby Russert "Flounder" freely.

Thanks much !!

11. Russrt will become "dean" of the White House Press Corps ...
And two or three universities will establish Journalism Schools in his name. He'll retire as a silver-haired old man, much honored, and there will be many banquets and speeches in his honor In the future they'll talk about how he exceeded even the greatness of his own father. It doesn't matter how competent he is, he's been chosen.

14. He's definitely being polished up by the network.
Compare what you see on TV now to the picture I used in the graphic below shortly after Tim died. They're not just grooming him figuratively.
He's gaining poise and general slickness but there's never going to be any 'there' there.
Unlike some of the other posters here, though, my guess is by the time he's 40 he'll be a trivia question.

18. If he wasn't a lost cause, he wouldn't be on the air
Chuck Todd is not exactly Edward R. Murrow, either. Chuck Todds and Luke Russerts are known lost causes and the network wants that perspective in their particular functions and time slots. If Russert became a true journalist and started tackling the issues in-depth, they'd replace him with another lost cause who doesn't require an inquiring mind to appreciate.
