Obama Turns The Super Committee Failure Into A Weapon Of GOP Destruction
After the Super Committee failed, President Obama placed Republicans on notice that they are going to do it his way and tax the rich, or face painful cuts to their beloved defense budget.

2. Everybody knew it was going to fail..
I'll be amazed if both sides don't have plans several layers deep on how to handle it..

8. We shall see. I am certainly praying for him to do the right thing
The tax deal in December 2010 damaged my confidence in his fortitude.

9. It's been a rope-a-dope strategy all along.
Boxing fans know this - they've thrown everything at him including the kitchen sink and now they are weary and it is our time to go on the offensive and deliver punishing blows. We're going to take back the House, pick up seats in the Senate, and re-elect the President. When you've got your opponent on the ropes you knock him the fuck out.

Obama. Obama. Obama. :yourock:

13. Oh, Ok
There were just threads all over the place yesterday (and probably before then) complaining about Dems "caving," "selling out," "spineless," etc.

Thankfully, Obama and real folks know where the anger and blame should be directed, be nice if others would follow his lead.

14. Vocal minority.

That tend to congregate at DU...but even if you poll DU the majority understand the situation the President is in and still support him. They just don't feel like engaging in the same endless debate with the same people who've been making the same argument since 2000 or before.

17. At what point will he dare propose solutions to scale of our problems ans cease reinforcing
the opposition's frames and validating their failed ideology?

When will we see our guy spring from the ropes and change the whole dynamic?

Or are we just cheering for our favorite fighter or rooting for the home team?

19. 2012 Election.
Turnout always goes up in a Presidential Election. Historically speaking - 2010 could have been a lot worse. What are you going to do to help the home team? Or is it just hunker down and hope the world goes away?

21. The best help I can provide is to make sure we cease scoring on our own goal,
combat those scabs that are working for the other side on our payroll (and votes!), and being relentless in demanding sound policy that benefits the people rather than the wealthy few.

This isn't sports, our team can win and we still lose quite badly if they "win" with bad policy.
In sports the only goal is the win, in politics winning is just the barest beginning and can easily turn bad to worse.

Hell, once you get past beating the TeaPubliKlans victory is not something that can even generally be defined by our "team" and too often means we implement their game plan instead of allowing them to do it.

10. Right. Obama: Asia-Pacific defence immune from budget cuts - MSN
Politics (and promises) as usual.

http://news.xin.msn.com/en/regional/article.aspx?cp-documentid=5544770

President Barack Obama Thursday pledged he would not let a Washington budget crunch compromise an expansive vision and military presence designed to cement America as a top Pacific power.

In a message aimed both at a dynamic region he sees as key to the US economic future and warring lawmakers at home, Obama told the Australian parliament the Asia-Pacific was too vital to fall prey to US penny pinching.

"Let me address this directly. As the United States puts our fiscal house in order, we are reducing our spending," Obama said, warning reductions in funding for the US military machine were inevitable after years of war spending.

But he added: "Here is what this region must know. As we end today's wars, I have directed my national security team to make our presence and missions in the Asia-Pacific a top priority.

"As a result, reductions in US defence spending will not -- I repeat, will not -- come at the expense of the Asia Pacific."
