..snip..

Moving the primaries was needed to conform to a federal law that requires states to send absentee ballots to military and overseas voters at least 45 days before an election. Wisconsin's existing election schedule makes it impossible to comply with that federal law, election officials have said.

The change in law moves the primary from the second Tuesday in September to the second Tuesday in August. That will mean holding the primary on Aug. 14 instead of Sept. 11 in 2012.

..end..

Not surprisingly, the Urinal / Sentinel failed to report that this is days before college students return to classes. Under previous law, students could move in their dorms, fulfill their residency requirements and register/vote on election day. Pooofff. Now gone.

Not to mention, the old schedule didn't make it "impossible to comply" with Federal law. More election rigging, that's all.

8. Republicans nationwide are circling the wagons.
You can see it in their eyes and in their defensive speech. All eyes are turning to Karl Rove hoping he will produce a miracle in 2012.

10. They circled their wagons in 1980 with Raygun the evil a-h. Right now we're living the aftermath
Edited on Fri Nov-18-11 11:33 AM by Sarah Ibarruri
What we need to do now, is make sure the message of OWS is spread. The country needs to be very aware that this was all brought to be courtesy of corporate money, and the lackeys that currently sit in Congress cashing in, and waiting to become highly-paid lobbyists for them.

The damage was already done in 1980. Nothing new, right now.

3. I think this changes where they vote rather than that they can vote
not to say that it won't shift local politics in some college/university towns.

5. Many will be in transition between summer and school-year residences...
... and will be DQ'd because of residency requirement.

11. I think 'many' will be claiming to have spent 28 days in their parent's homes.
And I can also claim 'many' college and university students will face starting dates in late August or early Sep. The reason for that is that historically the college and universities were sensitive to the reality that many of their students summer jobs were working in Wisconsin's tourist/resort/summer camp industry.

Having spent decades around college campuses, I'd say the most students show up between the middle of the week and the Sunday before a semester starts. Which isn't to say that there aren't 'many' exceptions. But for 'many' there will be an opportunity to stop packing or saying good-byes in order to go and vote in their local election (wherever they claim to have been for the past 28 days).

I'm not saying it doesn't change things, but until we see the nature and magnitude of the problems it creates, we won't know what sort of solutions to push forward.

6. Again - Republicans afraid to let people vote?
They know they would lose every election if every American was allowed to vote!
