Former surgeon general to run for Kyl's seat
Edited on Thu Nov-17-11 01:37 PM by RandySF
Richard Carmona, a former U.S. surgeon general in President George W. Bush's administration, announced Thursday that he will run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz.

Carmona, 61, is a Tucson resident and a lifelong political independent who was courted heavily by top national Democrats, including President Barack Obama, to seek the three-term Kyl's job.

"Like most Arizonans, it's clear to me that Washington is broken, and it is time for honest people with real-world experience to step forward to solve the problems we are facing and get our economy going again," Carmona said in a statement e-mailed to the media.
