2. Not likely. It's been ridiculously unlikely since the beginning that they'd agree to anything.
Far too little common ground.

3. But they -do- agree on cutting entitlements...
My expectation is a big reduction VA funding, that is likely to remove entire categories of eligibility for care.
Vets in health trouble include many mostly hidden people so little political clout...

Both sides have already made comments to the effect "veterans understand being asked to sacrifice."

4. But don't they have to come out with a total package and
not just a couple of things??

5. But the president & first lady are trying to get companies to hire vets, so don't worry,
they'll get the health care benefits they need.

:eyes:

I don't mean to belittle the vet jobs program, but what the fuck? We can't do both? The priorities in this country are FUBAR.

6. NO - less than that
While the deadline for Congressional Action is in 13 days, it needs to be scored by CBO, so it's pretty much due today....

9. $600 billion off defense. $600 billion off entitlements. That's what their failure would look like.
And the SuperDuperCommittee will flail and sweat and grunt mightily, then bring forth a mouse. And there's nothing saying that the new crop of weasels who'll take office just as the cuts are going to start taking effect (in 2013) is going to feel bound by what the previous crop of weasels delivered.

There'd be a lot of material for 2012 campaign speeches, but not necessarily much else.

What happens if deficit super committee fails? Maybe nothing. (Christian Science Monitor)
