I'm Pro Life
Edited on Wed Nov-09-11 04:31 PM by BlancheSplanchnik
WOMEN's lives are LIFE.

we should have framed that eons ago; it's not merely choice, it's OUR lives at stake, versus the ideology of deity myths, women's traditional role and romanticized fantasies about potential babies.

just had to get that out, thanks....

2. Not they're not - according to the opposition.
They're supposed to sacrifice their lives in service to men and offspring.

And in the inarticulate efforts of the right to justify his actions.

3. I recently learned
that my great grandmother died from a botched abortion probably in the 1920s. She douched with lye (don't know where she got such an idea) and it killed her. I can only imagine the agony.

6. god, that's tragic.....soooo damn sad
no one should have to go through that, no one should be forced to breed. Makes me wonder if perhaps MANY of us have women in our family tree who suffered like your great grandmother did :(

9. Think that kind of thing happened much more frequently than any of us know -- !!
That's why women right now are encouraged still to talk about the days of

illegal abortions ---

Let their kids know what happened and why -- the circumstances -- and how close

to death they might have come!

15. absolutely!!
I agree one thousand percent.

Women's history is full of tragedy and COURAGE in the face of incredible opposition, equal to that of any soldier (not to mention brilliance and innovation equal to the men whom history elevates). But women don't receive recognition; no legends and stories, history and honor accrue to us, though as a group we are viewed as weak, interchangeable victims.

I think that disregard of individual women's experiences and achievements dehumanizes us and enables the persistent disempowerment we experience.

19. Patriarchy is "the bird with one wing" -- hugely destructive to nature and humans ....
Love what you're saying here about women --

Seems like every female on TV is washing a toilet bowl -- !!

And every male who is on screen is accompanied by heroic background music -- !!

5. Indeed- PRO-LIFE and PRO-CHOICE are not mutually exclusive.
And if we could just get the media and everyone we know on the left to STOP SAYING PRO LIFE (this means you Chris Matthews) and start calling it/them ANTI-CHOICE- which is really what it means- perhaps we can begin to play it their way. You can be PRO-LIFE and PRO-CHOICE. Not only can you be both - but we are both.

Never mind the fact that the anti-choice people (who claim to be pro-life) are also usually pro-death penalty. That's another story entirely, sigh.

8. I think it's most accurate to call them the Anti-Woman people
or how about the Woman Killers? Again, to my mind, it's not even the issue of personal choice, it's the right to LIVE. An actual life should not be subordinate to a potential life.

25. Actually - Pro-Life is politically defined as being against Roe v. Wade
They've used the confusion about what Pro-Life the political stance is, and being morally against abortion.

I had to convince my Catholic Mother in Law that she was actually Pro-Choice, since she was in favor of keeping it legal.

They're very, very good at the messaging game.

12. It's our lives versus capital's profit
Edited on Wed Nov-09-11 05:18 PM by MedleyMisty
The myths and all that are to sell the ideas to the poor and uneducated.

It's about breeding workers. They see working class women the same way that slave owners in the 1800s saw female slaves. As a breeder who would bring them more labor and more profit, and so had to be controlled.

The way to achieve full equality and rights for women is to destroy capitalism.

18. We need to remember, and say very often...
That Republicans are NOT against abortion! They LOVE abortions! They are one hot ticket item that they can count on to get people's blood boiling! That is worth more to them than stopping abortions. This issue is trotted out every election cycle, and everyone, us included, falls for it every stinking time.

If Republicans truly wanted to outlaw abortions, they would have done it while GWB was "on the throne" and it would have been very easy to do with the Congress that was in place at that time. Reagan could have done it too... GHWB could have as well.

It's all a distraction.

I wonder how many Republican politicians have had their 'love children' aborted.

the ones that Michelle Bachman said should starve if the parents couldn't find jobs.
