Occupy Oakland: second Iraq war veteran injured after police clashes
A second Iraq war veteran has suffered serious injuries after clashes between police and Occupy movement protesters in Oakland.

Kayvan Sabehgi, who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, is in intensive care with a lacerated spleen. He says he was beaten by police close to the Occupy Oakland camp, but despite suffering agonising pain, did not reach hospital until 18 hours later.

Sabehgi, 32, is the second Iraq war veteran to be hospitalised following involvement in Oakland protests. Another protester, Scott Olsen, suffered a fractured skull on 25 October.

On Wednesday night, police used teargas and non-lethal projectiles to drive back protesters following an attempt by the Occupy supporters to shut down the city of Oakland.

5. There will be real change only when cops can be charged with ADW just like any other citizen.
Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

6. I think the OPD is used to having more freedom to abuse
people and never getting questioned about it. The cop and public authority bubble provides easily pliable cover for individuals who get off on their power not to get caught doing what they know is wrong.

People who abuse a lot, are great at blaming their victims for having to make them cause violence upon them. If that personality has authority it is a recipe for disaster.

The cycle OPD is in is not unique to Oakland. However areas where the police and the public do not trust each others version of events creates a breeding ground for officers who abuse their power.

Dickerson, then 24, was "yanked out of the car" by at least one officer who handcuffed him and slammed his head into the hood of his car and the ground, according to the suit Dickerson filed in U.S. District Court in San Francisco last year.

The impact broke two teeth and cut his lip in two places, Dickerson said.

Police said Dickerson had twice tried to head-butt Mitchell, who radioed for help. Mitchell and Officer Joseph Fong forced him into the back of a police car, where he kicked at the windows and tried to spit on the officers, authorities said.
