44. is it the chutes and ladders museum?
actually this may be cheating. I googled chutes and ladders to find out where it was made, so I could make a proper joke, but first I thought, maybe there really is a chutes and ladders museum. Google came up with this http://exhibits.smm.org/wiki/display/program/Southside+Chutes+and+Ladders which may actually be #3

What can I say, the only museums I have been to in the last decade are
a. The Wizard of Oz museum in Wamego, Kansas
and
b, The C.W. Parker Carousel museum in Leavenworth.

Well, and I did watch "Night at the Museum" about five years ago.

However, it's not a trolley. It's a tram.

I'd also highly recommend the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena and the Huntington Library in San Marino.

The difference is minor and they're often used interchangeably and especially internationally - they're also hybridized often.

50. Did you see "Midnight in Paris", the Woody Allen film?
they shot a scene in that room. I thought it was great that Allen was allowed to shoot in that museum. They are hugely pissy about "the rules" in the Orangerie. No flash photos permitted. However, since it was a film that the First Lady of France was in, they got "special privileges."

go see that movie for the sheer joy of experiencing Paris!

Yes, #6 is the museum of the convent of San Marco in Florence...why don't more Americans GO THERE when they go to Florence???

This cell is actually that of Savonarola! Isn't that cool?

And, of course, the fresco is by Fra Angelico, who painted these scenes in the monks' cells with tears streaming down his face...

The monastery at Orvieto also had at least one work by Fra Angelico. What I remember most is that the monks there served a nice dinner, and they also made some excellent wines. :)

3 is the Guggenheim. Or else it isn't.

4 is the Rothko museum. Is there a Rothko museum? I might be wrong here.

5 is the absolute coolest outside-of-a-museum I've ever seen. ( I know I'm right about this.) It's probably not in Denver.

and I get it...but no...

#4 is not the Rothko but I also can see why you think it might be. It actually features an artist of basically the late 19th century, one you know well...

#5 is a more recent museum. You really have to think about the whole idea of its art...it was very famous in the early 20th century...it was considered very, very modern and out of the mainstream then...

and yes, it is the "coolest" of all the museums here, except maybe the San Marco...;you can't get much better than Fra Angelico...sorry...

" . . .features an artist of basically the late 19th century, one you know well... " actually, I don't know any artist of any era well.

I have been to the Dali museum in St Pete FL. That was really fun. I might be able to recognize his work 3 out of 19 times.

I've been to a couple other art museums, but not really all that many, and I don't know near enough about art.

I briefly considered buying an art book today at Barnes & Noble. There was a giant one, the size of it caught my eye. I already forgot the title, but it was simple and seemed to cover all of art for all of recorded history. It was in shrink wrap, so I couldn't flip through it at all. Weighed about 20 pounds.

On the same table was another about the Louvre. It claimed to have pictures of all the art in the Louvre. 3,022 pictures.

36. I can't read those giant art books because I read art books in bed and those are just
too humongous.

Don't try to get an art book that covers all of art in history. Get what era/area interests you and read smaller volumes...it pays off.

You know more than you think you know. I'll bet you know #4's artist...my photo was not large enough to show you his works. Once you see them you'll know.

Go to Paris and decide to devote at least 3 days to the Louvre if you are serious about its art. It is huge. But decide on what you want to see ahead of time as a kind of strategy of looking...

The Louvre: my list: the Marriage at Cana by Veronese. The newly commissioned ceiling by Cy Twombly (the first American to have a ceiling commissioned by the Louvre), the "row" of Delacroix, Gericault and David paintings, The Death of the Virgin by Caravaggio.

49. Hi, there!
This is a pic my dtr took when we were in September there for the Lichtenstein-Monet exhibit. The glass structure is by Chiluli, whose exhibit had recently closed there and the museum was raising money to buy it for its permanent collection, which it did. The structure is quite tall. It is in the big hall where there is a nice restaurant.

I'm going up to Boston next Tuesday for the MFA's "Degas and his Nudes" exhibit, which has gotten RAVE reviews. I'll also finally get to go to the Gardner (across the street from MFA).

Hope all is well with you...
