1. Those results do surprise me.
Only in the ethnicity segment, however. The rest I anticipated. But the ethnicity segment astonishes me.

This movement will FAIL if it is not driven as much by Latino and African American and other diverse groups as it is by the melanin-deficient.

I hope that some kind of survey bias would account for the numbers, but I fear that if that is not the case, we will leave ourselves open to wedges cleverly driven in by our Beloved Oligarchs.

I would certainly like to know the "why" behind that segment.

worriedly,
Bright

2. What I saw in SF -
was the core Occupiers were predominantly white, while those who showed up to lend support were more ethnically diverse. I agree completely that the movement needs to be widened ethnically and hope that OWS members are developing a plan to reach out to other communities.

3. I am hoping that those who are already participating...
...from black and Latino and other diverse communities will put some of their energy into bringing more friends, family members, and community leaders to the movement.

And that they become part of the leadership.

IF that happens, we can't lose.

If it DOESN'T happen, our ability to win is definitely diminished, and may be in serious doubt.

oracularly,
Bright

7. My experience: People are participating in different ways. Our canvass of one segregated
neighborhood here was encouraging. I alone found 4 volunteers, in one week and hit upon only one hostile response.

Camping with the occupation is not everyone's cup of tea, but that doesn't mean that they are not glad to see us out and active in our community.

8. Latinos and African-Americans have been in the movement for
a very long time. The "melanin-deficient" are just now feeling what most Latinos and African-Americans have experienced for their entire lives.

4. All I know is 50,000 blacks gathered on International Occupy Day to support OWS and got no coverage
Not just black people, but it was a union organized march to deliberately upstage Obama's (delayed) opening of the MLK Memorial, and the crowd I was in was 80-90% black. And the speakers all said they were there in solidarity with the Occupy movement.

5. Ah, the old --
"If the MSM didn't cover it, did it even really happen?" thing -- thanks for noting that.
