Poll question: If you had an emergency occur and you needed $2000, would you have it?
Not a shopping emergency or a down payment on a new car emergency, a real emergency where you had to have $2000 to get out of the situatiuon..

Thanks

1. I usually don't have $200 for an emergency, much less $2000.
About half the time I don't have $20 for an emergency.

4. That's a categorical resounding no for me
I had to fork out $300 for brakes about 3 or 4 months ago and have been having to borrow money every month since then to make it to the end of the month.

5. I did until I got laid off and got shut out of the job market
I had a nice savings account before then. It is long gone. Good thing the stock market is doing so well, because I'm probably going to have to dip into my 403b just for living expenses. But, I understand that who gets to play in the Big 12 football conference is much, much, much more important whether or not myself and the other 25 million Americans who desperately need and want decent jobs get them.

7. does being able to borrow it, at say, 10% interest count?
When my lawnmower broke, I bought a new one with my credit card. When my water heater went out, I bought a new one with a credit card (but I also have done without hot water for long periods as well.)

I am not sure what the interest rate is on my credit card though, because I always pay it off. One credit card or another is always offering me low rates for a short time, with a 3 or 4% fee (which fee amount will then be charged 19% interest as well).

10. Sure, no problem.
I could do up to $100,000 if I had to, but it would take some time to convert assets into hard currency.
