Student driver crashes into northern Calif. DMV office; it's closed for the week

(CBS/AP) - The California Department of Motor Vehicles office in Roseville closed down Monday after a student driver crashed a car into the building, leaving a 4-by-5-foot hole in the wall.

Now the department is considering issuing a warning to driving instructors to avoid practicing in the DMV parking lot.

DMV spokesperson Mike Marando said Tuesday that one person was injured in the crash. The student was reportedly believed to have hit the gas instead of the brake. ............(more)

1. I've got one kid with a permit, and one who is turning 16 soon and wants a permit.
These are the years I've been dreading since I first became pregnant. Poor kid! (assuming it was a teen)

11. I thought HE was the default pronoun to use since we don't have a unisex pronoun.

I think we should use PE in lieu of HE or SHE. PE is short for PERSON. Also, HIM or HER can be replaced with PER, for the same reason. HIS or HERS can be PERS.

I've been saying this for years (decades?) but people just think I'm stupid.

(Oh, BTW, I didn't click on the OP link. Also, are you a real lumberjack?)

12. I've seen s/he used.
Looks a little awkward, but I could get used to it.

Doesn't work for the objective form, though.

4. I did the same thing to my grandma's garage door.
Mine was dumber, though.

I jumped in the car, started it, belted up, went click-click-click on the automatic, turned to look over my shoulder out the back window, then proceeded to back out of the driveway.

D'oh!

7. Must've been driving one of those defective Toyotas.
It has been well established right here on DU that nobody *ever* mashes the go pedal when they mean to hit the brake...

:sarcasm:

10. Yup. NASCAR would have a whole new set of winning drivers if DUers would only enter..
I never did that but I did push the clutch once when I meant to push the brake, with basically the same effect of running into something.

:o
