San Diego City Council WALKS OUT on OSD!!!
byLa GitaneFollow

Occupy San Diego appeared at the weekly City Council meeting today to speak during public non-agenda items. Not only was Occupy given very little time to speak (3 minutes), but during that time almost the entire City Council walked out.

But the Occupiers gave a helluva fight; video and more below the fold:

.................

Since they wouldn't give us more time to talk, OSD had written up a very intelligent and concise speech. Jersey, the woman who spoke on everyone's behalf then led a Mic Check, and the entire statement was read by about 100 Occupiers!!! It was the most amazing activist moment I have ever experienced. Goosebumps and a lump in my throat. It was beautiful.

However, about midway through the reading, almost the entire City Council got up and walked out. Big hat tip to Councilwoman Marti Emerald, however -- she not only stayed throughout the entire presentation, but she told the cameraman to turn and film us. She was also trying to keep her colleagues in the room. Please go to her website and give her some love!!

6. That's what these fools don't get, they think they're in the 1% the F'n fools. I've
been around some of the 1% in my lifetime, and these damn fools aren't close enough to even wash their garbage cans. ALL citizens in this country better wake the F up, or we're all going to be the lowest peasants in history. The goal is slave labor in this country.

5. From All I'm Hearing Out Of CA, It's Seems It's One Of The Worst In The
nation when it comes to attacking any OWS Rallies! And the state supposed to be blue.

Even down here in FL we aren't getting THAT much crap! Tampa is having problems though. Sarasota isn't that big, but they aren't giving us trouble... yet!

7. I've lived in parts of CA and I found it a very intolerant state in some areas. A lot
of the supposed CA blue magic is smoke and mirrors IMO.

11. Here is the trick. The coast, save orange county, and that is changing too
Is mostky blue. Inland it's red. It's more the urban/ rural split.

FYI it used to be north south.

My local rag published a great map on this in 2004 that surprised even political scientists. So yes, if you are in the central valley...or locally poway.

12. I was inland a bit up north, but it was a republican area, and years ago southern
CA. SFO area was fine and the Silicon Valley, IMO the techies were always OK, at least where I was. We're going back a couple of decades. ... but I'm pretty sensitive to the RWers.

14. You know, that's what amazed me. What I moved to CA decades ago
I thought it was all blue, was I naive, too close to 60's thinking. One place I lived had a bunch of RW church people ... that woke me up fast. I lived there a couple of years but then moved to a more tolerant area.

15. I know, for Te record local power structure is on alert
Since San diego is becoming increasingly blue ( on the coast) and that has sent them on all kinds of panic.

8. I haven't lived in CA since 1988, but San Diego as I knew it from '65-'88
was right wing, Ronnie Reagan territory.

It doesn't surprise me that it's still that way.

Navy base town.

9. Alas it is still a navy town
But not as red as you remember. Some areas, south of I 8 and the 52nd congressional district deep blue even. I'd say it's purple these days getting redder, even deep red, inland, as in places like campo and Julian.

17. I just spoke with Councilmember Emerald and thanked her.
I hope she's getting a lot of positive feedback from people in her district. We need to make sure politicians know about the support they have from their voters.

23. I would have too - Occupy San Diego is a mess and extremely fragmented
I went down a week ago and left. The group had deteriorated to an extreme anti-police protest.
