1. Is that real or a photoshop? What does it mean?

Does it have to do with the pictures of cats and incorrect spellings of words, often involving the letter z in the place of an s, or a -eh in place of -en?

I never fully grasped the appeal of all that. It apparently has staying power.

well as far as I know the very beginning of the icanhascheezburger.com site was a funny picture of a cat about to get on the table to go after a cheeseburger and it had that caption, "I can has cheezeburger?" It was so popular that an internet phenomenon was born. (Maybe I'm giving away too much if I say that I remember when the site was young enough you could actually find that story on it. Before that, I think cuteoverload.com was the main supply for cute cat pic addicts.)

The joke is just that cats 'speak' to us in so many ways and the lolcat pictures are just people putting words in the cats' mouths, so to speak, but pretending it can't actually spell.

But anyway, if you don't get it, you don't get it, and that's ok. :) But lots of people do, obviously!

Or is there some other string to pull? A play or film where that line was used? I don't get the connection between cats and cheeseburgers!

I dunno. I just don't find it particularly funny. The pictures of the cats are hysterical--the oddball spelling, though, I find a bit...irritating.

I guess it's because I have a bit of an affinity for the written word, or maybe because I see way too many texts and Facebook posts quoted where there are similar misspellings, and the people doing the writing are NOT trying to be funny!

Forgive the excessive analysis--it's just something I've always wondered about, every time I see one of those pictures. Perhaps it's just that I am old and uncool...!
