Soldiers burn O’Reilly books

http://everqueer.tumblr.com/post/11562760470/some-jerk-sent-us-two-boxes-of-this-awful-book

U.S. forces stationed in a remote area of Afghanistan recently received about 20 copies of Bill O’Reilly’s book “Pinheads and Patriots.” Their orders upon receiving the tomes: Burn them, according to a tumblr account maintained anonymously by a soldier.

Some jerk sent us two boxes of this awful book (SPOILER ALERT: George Washington — Patriot; George Soros — Pinhead) instead of anything soldiers at a remote outpost in Afghanistan might need, like, say, food or soap. Just burned the whole lot of them on my Commander’s orders.

Posted Monday with photos of the burning manuscripts, the post quickly went viral, prompting the blogger to clarify the reason for the book blaze:

The motivation behind the order to burn them was not political. As mentioned in the original post, we are in an extraordinarily remote location. We don’t have a post office here, so sending them back wasn’t an option. Extra space is scarce and alternatives that a few mentioned, like recycling, are nonexistent.

1. Lobbing them at the enemy in hopes they'll die laughing?
How does "pinhead" translate into Urdu?

2. Oh, you mean they didn't burn the books because billo the clown is a "pinhead" ?
I have some doubts about that.

3. It's not even his new book. O'Reilly says he sends books to the troops if you buy $26
worth of shit from him. So he sends over his old unsold books. What a dick.

11. And probably writes it off as a "charitable donation"
using the full retail price of the book.

14. He should not do so
because itemized deductions of charitable donations of goods are supposed to be based upon the "fair market value" not the original retail price.

4. I will never support the burning of books no matter the content or the author...
US soldiers doing it makes it even more disturbing to me.

7. They address that in the article if you would read it - it was not even cause they were books
Edited on Wed Oct-19-11 08:07 PM by slay
it's cause they were in the way out in the middle of nowhere, the books were of no use, and the soldiers had no other way to dispose of them. read the article next time - or now even.

8. It was either burn them, or store them up the soldiers' butts
Somehow, I think this was the less painful way to deal with them, being that there was no place for the books to be kept.

9. Good point, but I think a better way of handling it just to send them back...
Burning books will never settle with me. Toilet paper would have been a better use.

5. It's just like billo to send his propaganda rather than items the troops need, like basic supplies.
What a tool.
