Tea Party Nation asks businesses to stop hiring as expression of tea party solidarity

Tea Party Nation sent to their members today a message from activist Melissa Brookstone urging businesspeople to “not hire a single person” to protest the Obama administration’s supposed “war against business and my country.” Brookstone writes that business owners should stop hiring new employees in order to stand up to “this new dictator,” the “global Progressive socialist movement,” Hollywood, the media and Occupy Wall Street.

snip

Resolved that: President Obama has seized what amount to dictatorial powers to bypass our Congress, and that because the Congress is controlled by a Progressive socialist Senate that will not impeach one of their kind, they have allowed this and yielded what are rightfully congressional powers to this new dictator. <...>

Resolved that: The current administration and Democrat majority in the Senate, in conjunction with Progressive socialists from all around the country, especially those from Hollywood and the left leaning news media (Indeed, most of the news media.) have worked in unison to advance an anti-business, an anti-free market, and an anti-capitalist (anti-individual rights and property ownership) agenda. <...>

I, an American small business owner, part of the class that produces the vast majority of real, wealth producing jobs in this country, hereby resolve that I will not hire a single person until this war against business and my country is stopped.

5. actively trying to harm the lives of the unemployed?
that is new. It is also disgusting and vile.

I wonder how many folks will call her on it. Probably none.

Part of that is due to the fact that the Tea Baggers have no following left, as well as the natural disinclination of MSM to criticize anything that a conservative might say.

6. I know this is going on...
Many businesses in this country are sitting on cash & will not hire until Obama is defeated. If the Republicans win they will begin hiring & Democrats will remain minorities for years possibly decades into the future...This is my fear anyway.

10. Let's be clear.
There are plenty of progressive business leaders who could conversely hire as well. If the Republican activist want to play that game, the Democratic AMERICANS can turn that right around on them, hire a million people and start this economy themselves.

16. I beg to differ
Edited on Wed Oct-19-11 07:18 AM by Cirque du So-What
as I wonder aloud whether there are enough 'progressive business leaders' in a position of authority to hire 1M people. Not saying it isn't possible, but I imagine it being highly unlikely. Even if a sufficient number of 'progressive business leaders' existed, many of those must deal with RW hosebags on a daily basis.

On edit: my best-case scenario, where I assume that the vast majority of business leaders skew repug, is that they open their eyes to the idiocy of the teabaggers and realize that they're slitting their own throats by refusing to hire enough people to operate at their optimal level.

21. Let's get back to reality...
Business, all business, large and small hire people people based on need. If the demand for the product or service is there, they will hire. If not, they will not. Generally an employer bases their overall hiring decisions on one thing and one thing only; "will the person(s) I hire make me more than they cost?"

A business that refuses to meet the demands of its market will simply not be in business for long.

26. OK, by all means let's deal with reality
In the course of my workday, I've lost count of the number of times lately that I've placed orders with some company and then been told it's on back-order - an indication that the supply chain is disrupted due to companies not having sufficient personnel to meet demand. Reality is, companies are holding back on hiring - even when it means demand is not being met.

So much for the 'invisible hand' :eyes:

I'm not saying that companies are hoarding cash and refusing to hire in order to make Barack Obama look bad (although I suspect some of that may be happening), but business leaders are being overly cautious as they look for 'the sign' that conditions are stable enough to start meeting pent-up demand once again.

29. Yeah, I think it's caution, not political motivation.
The same fear that keeps me from buying some big-ticket item; that I may not be able to make the payment next month, is the same uncertainty that keeps business people trying to make sure they are not suddenly stuck with an overstocked warehouse or a stack of shipping containers on the dock full of products they can't move.

11. Are they really telling small businesses to hurt themselves in order to
help the Republican teaparty?
Unbelievable. I hope that people see this for what it is --- an utter indifference to the plight of the 99% so they can create a political point.

Although it's delusional enough to require psychiatric intervention, I'll play along.

I, as a member of the working class will not allow my talents and skills to be exploited for political gain. Therefore I refuse to work for any employer who bases their hiring decisions on partisanship.

28. Not hiring people when your business NEEDS more employees is a bad business decision.
Somethings gotta give: customer service, quality of goods or services, attitudes of existing employees.

But, hey, if people think it's a good idea to sabotage their own business and the economy to hurt Obama, they are probably not bright enough to operate a successful business in the first place.
