To quote Shaggy, "Zoinks!" ....... Scary sh*t in Alabama

Alabama Town Uses Horrific Immigration Law to Deny Water to Those Without Driver's License

Sometimes, I have to remind myself that I live in the United States. Today is one of those times. It’s hard to imagine that any state within our great union would ever deny a human right to a human being, but the city of Allgood, Alabama has decided that the best way to handle immigration law is to cut off water service to anyone who cannot produce an Alabama driver’s license.

This atrocity is called Section 30 of Alabama law HB 56, and it forbids people who cannot provide proper documentation of citizenship from entering into a “business transaction” with the state of Alabama. Apparently, in Allgood, having access to clean water is considered a business transaction.

There are a lot of words one could use to describe this Alabama law. Thankfully, we don’t need to waste our creativity on sharing them here since Attorney General Eric Holder and the U.S. Department of Justice are already suing Alabama, claiming that the law is unconstitutional. ............(more)

4. Alabama is leading the crazy lately. I have family there...
Granted, they're Fox-loving right-wingers, yet suddenly they're all screaming, "This governor is going to kill us all! All the crops are dying, the prices are sky rocketing 'cause there's no one to harvest the crops"...blah, blah.

They'd probably still laugh at Herman Cain's disgusting electric fence "joke."

I give up on them. It's taken nearly 50 years, but I give up on that particular lot.

:eyes:

8. For reference, this is in the State capitol, Montgomery.
from further down in the original article:

"the Montgomery Water Works is now requesting social security numbers from individuals before setting up water service to their homes. In addition, she said both the Montgomery and Houston County probate offices have indicated that those requesting water sevice must meet the citizenship requirements listed in the new law."

10. Yeah, that's going to go over real well.
Many of our poor don't have licenses, even the people that have been here for several generations.

Hope they start a class action lawsuit.

12. We all work for INS now
Everyone, from the highest public official to the lowest, meanest service person, has to ascertain the proper citizenship status of everyone they encounter. Anyone who can't produce their papers on demand - no soup for you!
