Help out the Democrats... Should they come out in support of the OWS??
It seems like the Republicans are trying to co-opt the movement but I don't see a lot of success. They are scared to death that this will turn into a Democratic voting bloc.

The Democrats are cautious. They remember 1968 and the Democratic Convention and Chicago. Many still believe those demonstrations lost the election for the Democrats and won it for Richard Nixon.

But just how cautious should they be? The occupiers do not want the support of the Democratic or the Republican Party. However, that does not mean that individual Democrats cannot come out and support the movement. They do not speak for the Democratic Party at large. I think more Democrats need to speak out on an individual basis in support of the occupiers.

What is your opinion?

1. I see things the same way, pretty much.
Individual Democrats coming out to support OWS: great! The Party itself: not so much.

19. Yes, let this entire movement unfold as originally intended.......
....no co-opting from either party. Individual support is fine.

(I remember the Democratic Convention in Chicago.....let's learn from our past experiences.)

2. The party is currently spitting it in the eye with free trade deals
and another repatriation tax holiday (that led to 600k lost jobs and more debt last time). If candidates want to support the movement, sure.

They need to support OWS in deeds
If they only throw a few vague words of support for OWS and do nothing to address the concerns of occupiers, then they are only using the movement for their own cynical purposes and would be exactly what the occupiers are protesting.

18. Support the protesters in deeds, such as using their clout to speak to mayors who are
evicting the protesters from certain areas & to prevent the police from brutalizing peaceful protesters.

3. Individuals...fine
but overall, the Democratic party is part of the problem not the solution...

4. Any politician that wants to support OWS is fine
But the minute they try and co-opt it, then they should be run out of town with tar and feathers.

5. If Congress or the POTUS *really* want to support the 99 percent
They should get off their asses and pass laws that actually help the 99 percent, while heavily checking the power of the 1 percent...

No more complicated than that -- I don't need to see Obama/Pelosi/Reid/Axelrod/whoever make some symbolic, in-person visit only to fly back to Washington and drag this country farther right...

6. Don't want them now...
Too late. Maybe they should have opened their big mouths when people were being beat and pepper sprayed. Any "solidarity" they show now only shows that they are in it because they think they will get something out of it.. like votes. If they were really "supportive" then they would have been supportive from the beginning.

10. If there are any Corporacrats (Democrats) who could without
"fear" come out and honestly give the Movement
the understanding they have recourse in Congress
, this would be great for the party.

I am certain there are real Democrats who can
offer support.

There are groups across the country in solidarity
with the NY groups. Example at least 3 groups
in Ohio. Columbus Ohio, Cincinnati and Dayton Ohio

There multiple groups in each state of the Union.
Get a Grip Democrats.

7. Individual Dems have endorsed, and more should.
But OWS should guard against being coopted by the party. In fact, it's not what's best for the Dem Party, it's what's best for OWS and the American people.

if not voicing support for the movement itself

16. Same page.

Let some few like, say... Alan Grayson, get behind the movement and watch their numbers soar. If they work toward what we all need, then they can expect a solid and nigh-permanent block of support.

20. I want my party to start STANDING FOR SHIT, honestly.
Simply NOT being "the Jesus-drunk, flat-fucking Earthers who are bugfuck crazy and want to put women in jail for using birth control" is, admittedly, a powerful electoral selling point, but really we need to do more.

They must not give the OWS any credibility at all? Otherwise....
