The civil rights movement really gained a lot of momentum when American's television programs were interrupted and the vicious attack at the Edmund Pettus bridge was broadcasted across their tv's. Peaceful protesters were being brutalized who simply wanted voting rights and the end to unfair voting registrations that were pervasive at the time. Many, of all ethnicities left their homes and headed to assist with those who were seeking their rights. It looks like this will be repeated in the year 2011. Voting rights are already under attack. Those voices that cry out about the financial rapes by wall street, and so much more is under attack in Boston. Shame!

21. Police Commish's spin is that it was a "new group" of "anarchists"
“It’s important that we gain control and make sure the rules are followed, “ said Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis, who was on site during the police action.
***

The arrests and site eradication came after as many as 700 police officers descended to the Atlantic Avenue compound, which a small faction of protesters had taken over yesterday, while Boston police were busy keeping thousands more protesters off the Charlestown Bridge.

Davis acknowledged that the arrests marked a shift in the once harmonious relations between the group and the police.

“The group that was here for the first ten days was working very closely with us,” Davis said, “but they warned us yesterday morning that a new group, the anarchists, wanted to take control.”

Boston Beatdown: Police rough up Veterans for Peace, arrest 100 in retaking second #OccupyBoston location
By Carly Carioli

We'll have more in the morning. If you want the full story, we'll point you to our Twitter feed, where we've been covering #OccupyBoston -- and the Boston Police crackdown that sent at least 100 to city jails early Tuesday morning -- in real time, from our cell phones. Many thanks to the countless Twitter followers who helped by supplying information from the ground, photos, videos, and reporting.

You'll want to see this: Video of the beginning of the arrests: the first to go were members of Veterans for Peace. One Vietnam vet said he was tackled and injured a knee, but was not arrested -- and that he was disgusted by the "relish" with which the BPD performed its duties. He said a fellow member of the group, a female veteran of Iraq, was among the arrested. Since these videos are muddy, let's spell this one out for you: we've got cops puting the screws to U.S. war vets holding American flags.

9. About 100 arrested and charged with trespassing, right?
- From what I'm reading from several sources, the group expanded to private property across the street from the original protest site. Police issued several warnings for them to move from that area as it had recently undergone an expensive renovation and the property owner did not want it to be damaged. When the crowd did not leave, police came in and arrested them for trespassing. All reports I've seen indicate there were no injuries in the arrests.

If this is what you're talking about then your comparison to the civil rights movement is way off base. No matter what you're protesting or what rights you're practicing, you still don't have the right to trespass on private property.

Sorry, no anger at either the property owner or the police here.

16. I am disgusted, but I predict many Americans will cheer on the pigs.
Also, I bet many will have those "I support the troops" stickers on their SUVs, and will cheer on the roughing up of war veterans.

17. The oligarchs are now officially scared
I see more efforts by the oligarchs to criminalize the protests by using inconsequential by-laws to justify violent police riots against the protesters.

Since they can see these protests are gaining traction, this crackdown not only makes perfect sense to them.

Sadly, as usual, about half the US population will side with the oligarchs.

The October 7, 1776 issue of The Boston Gazette — printed during the Revolutionary War, just 3 months after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The front page is filled with letters to and from George Washington and Lords Howe and Drummond regarding peace overtures by Great Britain.
