Facebook rolls out big changes to ‘lock in’ users
Source: Raw Story
By Agence France-Presse

Facebook on Friday begins rolling out its biggest ever shake-up, in a move observers say will not only profoundly alter how its 800 million users interact with the site, but will keep them coming back for decades to come.

The new "Timeline," revealed last week by chief executive Mark Zuckerberg will also likely shock some users, notorious for backlashes in recent years over even small adjustments to the site, let alone a complete re-think of how their lives are presented to the world.

The changes amount to the "heart of your Facebook experience, completely rethought from the ground up," Zuckerberg told an annual developers conference.

Rick Marini, CEO of the Facebook-focused "career network" BranchOut, which itself boasts millions of users, marveled this week in a conference call with marketers and reporters how the site had managed to build an enduring model.

1. I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard nothing but good about it, even from FB complainers.
Looking forward to checking it out.

20. Thanks...interesting blurb:
Please note: If you haven’t already verified your Facebook account with either a mobile phone number or credit card number, you’ll be asked to do so before you can try the new features. If you need more help with that, here’s a helpful link.

I have NO intention of giving Fecesbook my mobile phone number nor credit card. I wonder if that means I won't be able to use the Timeline "feature" ever, or just not before it's available to everyone.

21. Same here...
I have never done one of their updates and as a rule I never ever give out my cell number or CC number if what ever is being shilled as being a "benefit to me".

all it tells me is 1) I will get never ending bullshit texts and robo calls from them 2) I will suddenly be charged something to my account that "they" thought would benefit me, but will be hellish to have it canceled and removed from my card.

fuck facebook. I have been seriously considering canceling my account to begin with. I only use it to promote my blog. And frankly, I'm beginning to realize it's not worth it.

6. That article said pretty much nothing - other than 'facebook is going to change again'
what those changes are/will be, you won't learn from the remarkable empty article.

likely be outraged. I guess privacy is a thing of the past for many..

12. There's nothing on Facebook that you don't put there.
If people choose to make their lives public, that's their right. You get to choose what is public, and what isn't.

There's a huge difference between that, and a government agency arbitrarily profiling aspects of your life that you want kept secret.

11. I like Timeline. It really enhances Facebook.

I think they could have named it better, but I've been using it since F8 and have few complaints. The only thing I don't like about it is that you now have to click the Friends icon in order to view your friends list. I did prefer the older method, where it always showed at least part of your friends list, so that you could view your friends wall with a single click.

Being able to put a photo at the top and personalize the look of my wall was pretty nice too.

16. Per last week's New Rules according to Bill Maher
If Facebook makes anymore unnecessary changes, they must change their name from "Facebook" to "FuckFace."

17. Zuckerberg said his team's main aim was "to design a place that feels like your home,"
Well, I HAVE named all my dust bunnies, I guess I COULD take photos and stick them on Facebook.
With tufts of loose dog hair, piles of paper and overflowing laundry basket, it should be a pretty page.

22. Betterfacebook.net -
It will help. You can pick options to change the features (eliminate the annoying new ticker on the right etc ...). It's awesome!

23. I've been using Timeline for about a week, and it's much nicer than
the old profile.

As others have said, there is not a single thing on Facebook that you yourself did not put there.
