Obama right to tell Congressional Black Caucus Foundation to 'stop complaining': Rev. Al Sharpton
President Obama hit the right notes when he told black congressional leaders to "stop complaining" and help him get the economy going and re-elected, the Rev. Al Sharpton said on Sunday.

Obama ran through what his administration has done for African-Americans and then told the audience at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's Phoenix awards to stop throwing rocks and help him push further.

"I expect all of you to march with me and press on. Take off your bedroom slippers, put on your marching shoes. Shake it off. Stop complaining, stop grumbling, stop crying. We are going to press on. We've got work to do, CBC," Obama told Saturday's crowd at the Washington Convention Center.

Sharpton, who spoke to the president shortly after Saturday night's speech, said it was the right message.

1. Let's talk about shoes
President Obama, 2011: "I expect all of you to march with me and press on. Take off your bedroom slippers, put on your marching shoes. Shake it off. Stop complaining, stop grumbling, stop crying. We are going to press on. We've got work to do, CBC."

Candidate Obama, 2007: "And understand this: If American workers are being denied their right to organize and collectively bargain when I’m in the White House, I’ll put on a put on a comfortable pair of shoes myself. I’ll walk on that picket line with you as president of the United States."

From "I'll do it" to "shut up and do it" in four short years. Sigh.

2. This is from the Al Sharpton who told 60 Minutes that
he'd kiss Obama's behind whether Obama was right or wrong just because he was the first African American President?

That's why I don't watch his MSNBC show.

3. I don't always agree with Reverend Al, but he's dead on target here.
It's absolutely ridiculous and pathetic that we have members of the United States Congress, the lowest of whom has more power than the average person could hope to see in a lifetime, that these people are holing up in their offices and demanding that the President do their jobs for them.

8. the members of the CBC didn't complain either, they praised his speech
as did the rest of the audience. some tried to make it like Obama was telling unemployed black people to get to work without any concern for their situation.

when it was pointed out that it was directed at the CBC they tried to make it seem like Obama was blaming them.

when full context was shown it was clear Obama was talking about help in passing legislation with reference to the civil rights struggles in how tough things were but continuing to fight .

9. Scolding the CBC now, hmmm
Say, Mr. President, where were your walking shoes when Wisconsin was in revolt. Oh, yeah, never mind, in the closet, where they still are, gathering dust.
