Obama just said: "We must stand up for the rights of gays and lesbians everywhere"
Apparently "everywhere" means everywhere but the US since he himself believes that gays and lesbians shouldn't have the same rights as everyone else when it comes to the issue of marriage and equality. This is the same president that while trumping human rights in front of the UN believes that here at home human rights is not a national issue but a states issue.

The hypocrisy here is unbelievable.

2. The President is right: I mean, if you let gays marry, what's next? Mixed-race couples?

5. He needs to certify non-discrimination against GLBTQ in the military.
Repealing DADT is an essential step, but it needs to be followed with certification of non-discrimination policies against harassment of GLBTQ. This was done when the military was integrated for African Americans and women. Why hasn't it been done to protect GLBTQ?

AND we need to move on to allowing transgender people to serve. A lot of people don't realize that repeal of DADT still doesn't allow transgender people to serve.

AND we need to repeal DOMA so that married couples have the same rights that married straight couples have.

8. He also offered up some hypocritical platitudes about an "open society".
This while pursuing Wikileaks and imprisoning a whistleblower.

11. Honestly, I don't know where Obama's head is totally at regarding LGBT but the stone cold fact
Edited on Wed Sep-21-11 10:42 AM by Zorra
is that DADT is now dead and buried and I right now am dancing on its stinking grave.

I'd much rather hear "We must stand up for the rights of gays and lesbians everywhere" from my President than "Homosexuality is a sin and should a criminal offense", which is what Perry, Bachmann, or basically the rest of the GOP bigots would say or would like to say.

As an LGBT person, I know that President Obama is not going to advocate for me to be arrested because of who I am.

Anyone that has read many of my posts knows that I have been a strong critic of the President. And yeah, it seems Obama has a ways to go in his comprehension of marriage equality.

But he's not going to take away my rights. He has, in fact, increased them to some degree.

No republican is ever going to do anything like this for me and my LGBT community, and the human race in general as well. Republicans will gleefully take away our rights if they can pull it off.

So, while I get what you're saying, NL, when it comes down to me not voting for Obama in the General Election, or choosing to vote for Obama over any republican in the General Election. it's a no brainer.

I'm voting for Obama. I may have to hold my nose due to many issues that I have been extremely upset with the President about, but slight progress is so much more preferable than rapid devastating social/economic/political regression under a republican.

peace

You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their excuses.
