Occupation Wall Street: Day 4: At least five arrested, one may be in critical condition
(still is mostly an American media Blackout)

* this park is privately owned but still cops confiscated tarps, and other times and proceed to abuse several protesters before arresting them.

Posted 2011-09-20 05:01:04 UTC by OccupyWallSt

Early this morning at least five protesters were arrested by NYPD.

The first arrest was a protester who objected to the police removing a tarp that was protecting our media equipment from the rain. The police said that the tarp constituted a tent, in spite of it not being a habitat in any way. Police continued pressuring protesters with extralegal tactics, saying that a protester on a bullhorn was breaking a law. The protester refused to cease exercising his first amendment rights and was also arrested. Then the police began to indiscriminately attempt to arrest protesters, many of them unsheathed their batons, in spite of the fact that the protest remained peaceful.

The new residents of Liberty Square continued to serve as shining examples of law abiding behavior in spite of police harassment and the loose interpretation and selective enforcement of New York’s laws by the NYPD.

3. We're going to San Francisco on Thursday,
a long-planned trip. We'll be right downtown on Sutter, so I think we'll have to stop by there and see what's happening. I always love demonstrating in San Francisco; it reminds me of the old days. :hippie:

8. a little more info from a friend
Horrible but no longer surprising video of police tackling peaceful anti-bank protesters a few hours ago in New York. I've been following this protest since Saturday, have friends there, and can say with confidence that it has been peaceful. They were given permission by the Canadian owner of a park near Wall Street to camp on their property. About 300 have been doing so (with larger numbers joining them during the day) but the police won't let them raise tents or tarps which have been donated. Today the police (which appear to outnumber campers 5-1) decided to clear the area. The crowd was described as "over-educated, under-employed" by a Guardian reporter. Their protest is under a US media blackout (again, no surprise there!).

Oh yeah, and they arrested a young woman for "graffiti." She wrote on the sidewalk with chalk.

11. Big news on NPR!! Online Poker and Space Debris!!!

Oh, and Google, and who hates Sarah Palin.

Any word about these protests from NPR?

****Crickets****

NPR is just as biased as the rest of the media, apparently. And as insipid. I'm disgusted and ask everyone to stop sending them funds until they can act like a real news source rather than a smoke screen.

And my best thoughts go to the protesters, who could teach NPR's news department all about COURAGE!!!!!
