If Obama changes to September 8th, I think it will look horrible!
I cannot believe he would pick that date, knowing there was a GOP debate, and would then allow the GOP to make him change the date.

He has to stick to the 7th now or look really bad.

1. It would make perfect sense.
He can only go so long without giving in to Republicans so now he's resorting to actually making up things to happen so that he can concede something to then.

Right, he needs to stick to his guns.
He would look pretty weak if he were to cave in to Republicans.

18. WHY pick that date, didn't anyone realize that the repuke debate was already scheduled
MSNBC has been advertising it for days. Of course there was going to be trouble, what kind of advisors does Obama have that seem to be oblivious to scheduling conflicts.

14. Let THEM change THEIR date (for a change)
Obama concedes so many things, he should run a concession stand.

Who here thinks the Rethuglicans would change, modify, grant or accede to ANY request made by Obama or any other Democrat? If they won't, why should we?

This time we should stick to our guns for no other reason except that we haven't stuck to our guns before, and we've suffered greatly as the result.

Obama is the President. He has the constitutional power to call Congress into session whenever he chooses, for whatever reason he chooses. He should exercise that power this time, no matter how it makes the evil GOP howl for no other reason than to show them he CAN.

Edited on Wed Aug-31-11 07:30 PM by RKP5637
some cross-checking on the date? I would also hope people in gov. would simply talk ahead of time about what date was best.

Nothing makes much sense to me anymore. I agree with what you said, "He has to stick to the 7th now or look really bad." It will look like another cave in IMO if it's changed.

32. Link, please.
MSNBC has been reporting that no preliminary talks were done, and that the Congressional leaders had no knowledge of the request until it was announced by the MSM that the letter from the President was on its way.

37. It was also being reported
on MSNBC that there was a discussion with Boehner's office, and that the date was agreed to, and that now Boehner's office is denying it. Maybe it is MSNBC that needs to get the story straight....I think it was on Hardball and Rachel Maddow Show they talked about it.

An address by the President takes precedence over private election activities of a political party.

21. I agree. I think it was a mistake for him to choose that date, knowing
that the Republican debate was scheduled for the same time. It looks petty. But, now the die has been cast. Neither side can give in without disappointing their supporters. But, the way most things seem to go in the political realm these days, I expect some way to be found which will make everyone involved in the matter look like idiots.
